i do a lot of river and crik fishing and i noticed some of my lures and hooks are getting rust on them and i know to try and keep everything dry and let things dry out but sometimes i forget so my question is what can i put in my utility boxes to help absorb some of the moisture in them to help prevent rust? i also drilled holes in all my boxes to help drain teh water

A piece of sidewalk chalk will wick up moisture. I have kids so sidewalk chalk is all over the place. It works well for me.

Are you a bowler? Know anyone who is?

If you do ask for one of thier rosin bags. I don't know one who doesn't have 2 or 3 in thier bag.

If not go to your local bowling center and pickup the smallest one they have.

It'll only cost about $2.00

Or, got one of those small tiny bags of rosin that come in a suitcase, an attache case, or even a small over the counter pill bottle.

Or, put some kitty littler in a small baggie.

Or, If you dont smoke cigars, go to your local smoke store and get a bag of the moisture inhibitors that are used in humidors.

i have made holes in my plano boxes and never have a problem with rust.  Where are you storing the actual boxes when not in use?

I use the Flambeau Zerust boxes with the rust inhibitors built into the dividers for most of my hard baits. You can also order just the dividers to fit too. For my boxes I have that aren't Zerust I buy the Zerust tabs and put a few of them in a tray.

Ditto on these.  Either the dividers or tabs.  Easy & effective.

My favorite snack while fishing is beef jerky, and I take the small desiccant packet in there and put it into my trays.

I also have the silica packets that will be included with many household items like electronics, clothing, and so on. These can be bought for really cheap on ebay.

those dessicat packs or whatever theyre called that come in vitamin or pill bottles soak up moisture also

Head to your local Pharmacy or 3 and ask if they will save the packs for you.

I have a friend that works in a pharmacy and I had her save the things that come in the pill bottles to keep moisture out. They work great. I just throw a few in all of my boxes.

All my boxes have lots of holes for better airflow. Airflow = dryer boxes = less rust.

I had (have) the same problem with the rusting. I found those zerust tabs and started using them about 2 months ago. Will see how it goes this year.

I do open the tackle trays when I get back to let everything dry out for a few days.

so the zerust tabs are a good choice it sounds like too
