DCfishing Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm on a budget and just want a good all around type BC setup(for bass) to accompany my spinning setup. What do you guys think about this? St. Croix Triumph X 7'0" MH/F Casting Rod MODEL: (TXC70MHF) http://stcroixrods.com/products/freshwater/triumph-x/ Lew's Speed Spool LFS MODEL: (SSG1SH) http://www.lews.com/casting-speedspool.php 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 That would be fine and work well for you. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 That setup should cover most bass fishing techniques for you. Quote
ChrisWi Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I Would get the original Triumph, unless you like the ugly orange and EVA Quote
fisherrw Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 i would swap the rod for the phenix maxum but the reel is a good one, my friend has one. Quote
Poolshark Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I'd stick with a medium fast in the st croix line up. It will have enough backbone for plastic, be ok with treble hook lures, have enough backbone get fish from medium cover and will be less tip heavy than the mh version. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 That combo will work. Choose the rod power based on the blank's weight rating and the weight of baits you use most frequently. St. Croix's power ratings are usually a little under many other brands so a medium power from them will have a bit more power than the average medium power rod. Quote
DTack Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 That is a good choice for an "all around" set up! Quote
yakingfisherman Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Yup that should work for an all around setup Quote

Yeah, that's actually what I'm doing. Thanks for the tip! Quote
Poolshark Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 You'll be happy you did! Like own many versions of st croix medium and medium heavy and I think without a doubt that this would be the way to go!! Quote
