When people say this, I know who not to take reel advice from. The Curado E and Chronarch E are the exact same reel.

They are not the "exact same reel" very close though..

Day 3 with this reel and I am still fighting backlash. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I can turn the knob to the point it interferes with the return, and it will still backlash. Drag knob set to highest point also. My citica has no backlash issues what so ever.

What's your setup? ( rod & bait) what line? Also, how many internal brakes on?

Shimano Curado I

20lb braid ( Power pro )

3/8 ounce bullet weight , 4/0 worm hook

Zoom 6" lizard

All internal brakes on

Curado is a steal at $139. Reel is awesome and I have several reels in this price range and several well above it. The curado I is much better than the E series ( have the curado and chronarch E). A fish on with the x ship feels great. I also think the braking system was simple to set. I don't even use my thumb with it. The reason the price is low is they removed the MAP on the curado series. For what reason, I am not sure.

I'm thinking your braid size is too small. I use the

"I", as well as a *** heavy rod.. I have 2 internal on I also do not use braid.. Have you used 20 on a casting reel in the past? Now, bare with me, you are certain the brakes are set to on?

I have seen a case where a fellow mistakenly had his brakes all turned off. I'm only trying to assist you & in no way trying to insult you...

Open up the side plate again and make sure you have the brakes on and not off.  I think everyone has made that mistake before.  Also note these brakes are different than the previous models.  The brakes slide sideways to set on or off.

I believe they are set to on. They are slid towards the word "on" . They are loose and free to pivot. When set to off. They are locked in position.

Now I must admit I am assuming that I am right :) I did not read any directions.

20lb braid can be tough with a baitcaster if you don't know how to throw the bait (overhead vs 3/4 vs sidearm)

Hey, if switching out the line is the fix , I am in.

How does 40 sound ? I have some spooled with 20, and some with 40.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your on the right track now, line dig won't be near the issue that 20 is... I'm not a fan of braid but many, many are... Then when casting improves, turn off 2 of those brakes! Use a softer braid like 832 unless you already have braid then go for it.

You are correct.  I would say try thicker line...ie 40lb

20# Braid IMO is way to light on a bait caster. Power Pro list 20# as 6# mono equivalent. I tried 20# Braid on my Chronarch CI4+ and had problems with back lash. Ended up respooling with 12# Ande Mono and had no problems. If I ever consider Braid again I would go with 50# Power Pro which is 12# mono equivanlent. I feel line diameter plays a big factor on Bait Casters. Take a look at the Power Pro web site, some pretty good tips there.

Kind of makes sense. I was having trouble with pitching the lizard more than casting it. I bet you are right, my line is to flimsy to pitch it well.

I have not had any problems at all using 20lb Power pro braid on any other of my baitcasters.

I prefer to use as light of a line as I can get away with.

I feel the lure moves better with light line. I feel my success rate is higher with lighter line.

Last week I went to Okeechobee and put 40lb on 2 outfits for the first time.

That's the only reason I have 40 available.

I am using 20# Suffix 832 on a Conquest 50DC with no problems and I know that I would not have problems with a regular reel either. I have also used 10#PP with an XT1000 and a Yumeya shallow spool with no issues.

Stop it with the non sense. I use 20lb PP on three of my casting reels. One of them is the Chronarch 51e and it absolutely bombs lures with small diameter line. Trust me it is not the line. If you got all 4 brakes set on and the outer dial set that high there is something wrong with the reel. I set mine with 2 on and 2 off, turn my tension knob almost all the way off, and set the outside dail to 3-4 and have no issues bombing 3/8 oz lures. Something must else must be wrong with the reel or you're doing it wrong.

I have 4 other baitcast setups that I have zero problems with.

Pretty sure that it's not me.

Sounds to me like something is amiss with the reel also. I have mine set with 2 on and the dial set to 1 without issue. If you take the tension nob off does it have the pad inside it?

I am taking the day off from fishing. Going to see sbout trading in my 60hp Yamaha on a 90.

I am going to take the reel apart and clean and lube it. Going to look it over.

Probably change the line for the heck of it.

They are not the "exact same reel" very close though..

Not being smart, honest question, what is different on them?  I haven't looked that hard into it.  All I know is the Curado E is selling for a bit higher price used now...  The Curado E is probably still my favorite all around reel.  I have a few that have lost a little drag strength but overall, they are my preferred reel for throwing a jig, ripbaits and some other baits.  As prices drop I may be trying to buy a few of the Chronach E as long as they are close enough to "the same" as I've not used one yet and I haven't used the Curado I for more than about 30 minutes.  Just wanted to give the reason I'm asking the question so you know I'm not just being smart with you.  Thanks in advance.

The spool and handle are double anodized on the Chronarch, the dragstar is plastic on the Chronarch 200E vs. metal on the Curado 200E, and the drag on the Chronarch 200E is "dartanium II" vs the Curado's Dartanium (they spec the same). I felt like the Chronarch was a tighter reel as well, that's debatable as copy's do vary.. I prefer the Curado "color shift green" over the Chronarch E as well.. That's about it..
