Does anyone know why its 139.99?

Posted

I don't know but I read the reviews on TW yesterday and there are a lot of unhappy folks out there.

I bought one and after 2 days I am still trying to dial it in. I have a Citica that I dialed in in a half an hour.

It is built very well though.

Interesting. I got an email from another online retailer with the same price as TW, but it was listed as a sale, something must be going on.

That's because they wanted it to be the Metanium. They'd be a lot happier if they just flushed and oiled it rather than yelling at the thing and waiting for it to work better as a result- but understanding what to expect from a $150 reel would help people a lot. They aren't going to get a Metanium for that price.

My guess is that it's a seasonal promo from Shimano. There is nothing wrong with the Curado I aside from having a lot of grease in it from the factory.

Usually on TW a sale price is in red but the price on the "I" shows as it would for regular prices.

Maybe the Tatula being sold at "market" price(along with its performance) is taking a big bite out of the CUI sales.

I dunno but if i didnt have to fix my boat id have two or three of em on the way!

A few retailers have them at this price right now. I personally love my new I series Curado's.

I'm wondering if maybe they're dropping the Curado I price and bringing out a new reel in between the Curado and ci4?

I wish the E series was still available and in the 6.3:1 and I think all Curado problems would be solved. That's only my opinion but so far I am very pleased with my Curado I . It casts very well but it seems a bit more touchy than my E series or Citica E series reels. So far I am still impressed with the size of the I and the casting....pretty sweet reel. At $139 wow, amazing. If I had more cash I'd get some more at that price...

If you want an E series they're still available....its called the Chronarch E.  Cabelas and Gander Mtn still selling them, and on sale.  Get them while you still can if that's your preferred variant.

I think the Chronarch E is being discontinued and stores are discounting them to sell them out. Great time to pick one of those reels up as well!

How do you guys think the curado I compares to the lews bb1 pro?

I was just commenting on the Curado here since the OP was and several others had some questions or suggestions as to what might be going on with the new I and why it might be priced low at this time. I've fished with Chronarch E's and while they aren't bad, they aren't Chronach B's or D's..not even close. And the Curado E's are better reels than the Chronarch E, without a doubt (in my opinion). The Curado I is also a better reel in my opinion.

I am about to go ahead and get rid of my last Curado I for another Tatula.  I will just say the Curado I is high maintenance.

I think its temporary to compete with a competitors price. Much like they did last year with their unadvertised shimano reel sale.

havent fished the bb1 pro but ive had a tourn pro and super duty and ive got a curado i and to me its no comparison id take the I over the Lews anyday

I thought that other than cosmetics, they are the same reel. I have not owned either of these but I do have a NIB Scorpion 1500-7 and I have used other Scorpion 1500's in the past and IMHO, they are a fine reel for their price.

The Chronarch E is the same platform as the Curado E; same frame & sizes, same braking system, etc.  Also both of them made in Japan, lots of shared parts and same schematic really. If you prefer one over the other that's certainly up to you, I've never used the Curado E myself so I can't disagree.  Can you quantify how the Curado is better?  I pulled the trigger on clearance Chronarch E's to fill in some extra reels I wanted rather then buying used Curado E's since they were cheaper and brand new.  I have a Curado I but wanted to try the E series because everyone speaks so highly of them, and I wanted to get the best price I could get.  At the time of course the Curado I was $179.   I also wanted a 5.x reel in left, and the E series was the only way to do it.

I have 2 Curado 50e's and one Chronarch 50e. The only difference I can see is the paint job.

When people say this, I know who not to take reel advice from. The Curado E and Chronarch E are the exact same reel.

Im wondering if they are dropping the price of the Curado to make it closer to the Citica price... The Citica is no longer on the Bass Pro site or TW, so maybe they are trying to discontinue that and lower the curado price to take the place. Its lower for the Curado and a bit higher than the citica (about the middle of both) May just be going with one there instead of two. Did that make sense?

I have and fish with both but all I know to help quantify why I believe it's better is simply the way they feel in my hands and the way they fish. I absolutely prefer the Curado. I don't know, the Curado to me feels more solid and has been a more consistent performer for me and my preference of the two. That being said I do think the Chronarch E is a very good reel.  I do understand that the Curado E is commanding a pretty high price these days and certainly I would buy more if I could get a better deal but so far my Curado I has been great and I'll spend 140 on another one of those new before buying a used a Curado E for 180 or so.. Citica E's are great too and apparently the G's are pretty darn good from what I hear . I don't even mind the G Curado's...they've been great for me too though a lot of people trash them pretty bad. Good casters for me anyway. I don't think there's a wrong or right here and maybe the specs are pretty close or exact in a lot of ways. For me I prefer Curado E, others may disagree. Either way, all reels we've discussed here are pretty darn good .

I just bought two Curado 200I reels. Loaded them up with 14# Silver Thread AN 40 Copolymer line. The bearings were packed with grease but after a good cleaning and a drop of the reel oil supplied the bearings spun freely, Set them up with two breaks on and the side dial on #2. Casting on a few different rods from Medium to Heavy fast action and weights from 1/4 to 1 OZ they performed on par with my Chronarch CI4+ !!!! No complaints, money well spent and at 140.00 a great price.

Do you recommend cleaning the bearings on a new curado I, is it needed?

Posted

I would recommend cleaning them. When I removed the bearings from both reels they were really stiff and would not spin freely. I soaked them in Lighter Fluid and after a few soakings they spun freely. Be sure to dry them off really good and just use a very small drop of the supplied oil. I applied the oil to both sides of the bearings and spun them. ( use oil sparingly ). Before closing the reel up put a little oil on a Q-Tip and cost the brake drum.
