THE BASS WHISPERER Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm very blessed to live in a community with stoked bass lakes that hold very large bass. since November I've been killing them with the Flash mob JR. the shad have been schooling and I've been watching the bass attacking them . Ill throw the rig in the shad and a good amount of time ill get a hit off it . I'm convinced that the "A rig " is the most productive lure on the market. I've never used it in the the summer but until i stop slaying them with it , it will remain on one of my rods. i use bait casters and spinning reals but when ever i use the A RIG i prefer to use my spinning rod , to prevent backlashes. I have 40b power pro super slick bright green with fc sniper 20 lbs fluro for a leader. One day last week i even put a sexy shad crank bait on the back of it .It seemed to get tangled up with the other swim bait i had on , but still caught a couple of fish off it. I took it off to prevent tangles. now i use 4 shad swim baits on the outside and one clears looking swimsuit on the tail end of the rig. I have yet to cath more than one fish at a time but I'm sure sooner or later i will . I also caught my PB off the rig , 8.74 lbs, it was to say the least a monster. i hope this info is helpful, and I'm curious if anyone uses this lure in the summer, and what there experience with it is? THANK YOU THE BASS WHISPERER. 2 Quote
THE BASS WHISPERER Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 SPELL CHECK CAN BE TROUBLESOME I PUT A CLEARISH LOOKING "SWIMBAIT" NOT A SWIMSUIT. ON THE BACK. LMAO Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 I don't use the A-Rig that much but apparently I should. Congrats on the PB, they are Always a Blast. Any Pictures of the Beast ? A-Jay Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 Just remember, this rig does work great when the conditions are right for it. Right now you have the rght conditions but from my experiences summer it tends to slow and not be nearly as productive. Fall it will pick back up when the shad school and the bass go on their feed. Enjoy it while it lasts. Congrats on the PB as well. 1 Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 The Rig is very effective in spring and fall. I believe the giants being caught on the Tennessee River Reservoirs have never been caught and were in fact "uncatchable". The Rig has changed all of that. Quote
jbw252 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Congrats on the personal best - it looked huge. I've never fished an A-Rig. The bait monkey calleth.. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Yup, the A-rig shines when the bass are chasing schools of bait, hence the spring/fall success. This might work for summer smallies on Wallenpaupack in PA. They chase the bait all summer and it can make fishing tough. I'm sure there are other lakes where this might apply. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 I'm going to have to break down and buy one. Cant argue with results . Quote
primetime Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I have seen the potential of the A-rig but I have rarely used one, I always felt they were too heavy and almost like trolling with an umbrella rig which I never enjoyed even as a kid, but I am cool with anyone else who likes to use it, I think you are talking about the new versions with teasers and are lighter....I just saw Jimmy Houston on TV Sat Morning and he had 4 small grubs rigged up front without hooks, and then a crankbait on the back, and he was talking about how those booyah rigs allow you to get a square bill or minnow bait down 20 feet if needed, but it seemed they hit the teasers often, and you end up setting the hook and foul hooking the fish, he mentioned it is common and that makes sense. I have been thinking about getting a few since the fish are schooling in many of the deep pits we fish on a preserve, and the lakes are clear and you need to make long casts, so I was planning on trying this rig....Lately I have been using 2 hooks on a c-rig and it is pretty good, still can't figure out how to make them not tangle, I had that problem with the A Rigs that first came out as well, I just felt it was too much, but the new versions look promising, I would hate missing all the fish that hit the teasers however..... I have a friend who trolls the original Mann's A-rig and uses hollow bellies, and he lands more big fish than anyone who flips, or almost people using live bait, I guess covering all that water is key...I would get bored, but whatever you are into is cool with me, he has had double headers with 5lb plus fish.... Congrats on finding a new method for numbers and size...Speeding up the process is the goal..Now I will google flash mob and buy a few.....THanks Quote

Nice_Bass Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I fought using the rig as well- and only use a 2 leader rig with a willow leaf blade in middle and a blade each on each of the leaders. Even with this down sized rig, I use upsized berkely flatback shads though. The strikes on the rig are incredible, and caused me to put down my other rods last fall as it was a bit addicting- and on striper/wiper lakes an adrenalin rush. Quote
