So I have been going back and forth between a friend and father in law about my engine. My friend insist my kicker (which i use as my main engine on my 14 aluminum boat) has a built in battery charging system, and my father in law argues no it doesn't.

How I tell? I will post a pic when i get on my main computer.

I know nothing about that motor, but I bet Leroy does. If you haven't already, take a look at Leroy's Ramblings web site. Unbelievable amount of good info.

Yeah there is information on electric start (which I already have) and other information. A lot of it is the same from my old 84 9.9 Johnson. But there is no information about the charging system. There is a charging coil option, but I don't know how to tell if it is installed and if the charge is through a different output or back through the original cord.

Looking at the pics, my guess would be it does have a charging system. If it's working, it's easy enough to find out. Take a battery voltage reading with a digital before starting, While it's running at 2000 rpm or more, check your battery voltage again, if it's more than before starting, it has a charging system.

Looked at the parts breakdown and it shows it does.

You have to remember though, it's going to be a vary small one, 10-15 amps max.

Thats what I thought. I seen the plug next to the starter cylinoid and was sure that was part of the charging plug. Thanks for the answer!
