SDbassin Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I've gotten about 5 phone calls all with a 210 (coming up with San Antonio) area code today, and much more over the last month from someone claiming to be a "representative" of bassmaster.com. Each phone call I get, the person on the phone says that if I do not renew my bassmaster subscription on the spot that I would have to pay a large fee to renew my subscription in the future and that I would be charged large amounts of fines if I did not pay them for a new subscription up front on the spot. First, I have never once had a bassmaster subscription, and have no idea how they got my cell #, but secondly, this person is very persistent of trying to get people's credit card info, and social security info, all while he continues to claim he is a representative of bassmaster.com. I've asked them repeatedly to take my name off the list, and they continue to call almost every other day. Has anyone else experienced this at all? If not, this is a heads up for everyone else, if you do get a phone call from this person claiming to be a representative of the bassmasters, DO NOT give him anything. I have not and will never give a scammer anything. This is just a heads-up if anyone else gets a call from this person. It was a 210 area code, and each phone number was different. Quote
lecisnith Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I'm pretty sure I got the same thing. He stopped calling after I laughed at his ridiculous accent. Sounded like Nicolas Cage in Con-Air... 2 Quote

SDbassin Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Sounded like Nicolas Cage in Con-Air... he really does! I've gotten so many calls from him and its getting really annoying, maybe I should've tried laughing at him, that seems to work lol Quote

massrob Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I've been getting phone calls from a number in Maine twice a day for a week. It's driving me crazy I refuse to pick up. They don't leave a message Quote
Mccallister25 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Iv gotten a call from them before asking about a renewal of my membership. I declined. They proceeded to charge me. I had to call back up a while later when the charge showed up and they reversed it. That turned me off from them. Quote
Cameron211 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Just got these calls today ironically. I just subscribed to bass masters. Im tired of it to. Anything we can do? Quote
BannedForSpamming-1234555 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Can you guys film and record the conversation? Maybe you can troll him during the process. Quote
zeth Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 get about one a month or so trying to sell me a vacation along with the subscription. annoying, so i just selected block caller in my phone. if its your cell you can always block callers. Quote
matuka Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Five years ago I received similar calls several times. When I declined their offer the gal became quite rude. I called Bassmaster to inquire or inform them of this. I got a little run around and poor explanations. I decided to e mail them as they had invited in their mag. the message was quite involved and I received no reply as requested. Therefore I let my subscription lapse and want nothing to do with them in the future. No customer service after 18 years subscription, imagine that. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 Get yourself on the do not call list. There are exclusions to the list, if the caller doesn't meet that criteria report it. The fine can be quite heavy. Quote
Thornback Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Report them to the Federal Trade Commission in your state. I used to subscribe to Bassmaster Mag years and years ago. When I stopped subscribing they still sent me the mag for many years at no charge. When I get a sale person calling n my phone I just set the phone down and let them talk as I go about my business. Later they hang up on me Quote
halochef Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 if i dont know the phone # displayed i dont answwer. if there is no message, must not have been important. if the call is on my land line, and no message ditto... Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 I used to get these type of calls all the time from a fake NRA organization. I've gotten to the point that I'll save the number to my phone as a contact, and then I will set the contact to the "auto ignore" feature on my Android phone. Never have to deal with it again. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Honestly, I don't see the benefit of membership unless you're doing their tournaments. 1 Quote

hoosierbass07 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Maybe the scammers would have better luck if they offered one of those BassMaster bags I receive when I first signed up. BassMaster is sending me renewal letters in the mail and offering free gifts but none is that one bag I want. lol. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 My phone has a block caller feature. It's easy and drama free. Quote
Hurricane Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I am having a hard time deciding if I even want to get the magazine anymore.. Just wish they would have more articles about fishing in the northeast.. 1 Quote

Just wish they would have more articles about fishing in the northeast.. I agree. I like getting the magazine in the mail but feel it's geared more towards bass boats more than anything. I'm more a pond/strip pit/small lake kayak/bank fisherman. Still, I may renew but not sure. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 I am having a hard time deciding if I even want to get the magazine anymore.. Just wish they would have more articles about fishing, period. FIFY Bassmaster is just a advertising pamphlet for a few companies. Allen Quote
