Lew's Reels Or Abu Garcia

I have been a fan of Abu for a long time, but my budget for fishing has shrank tremendously. I am curious about Lew's reels I have read a lot of positive stuff about their products but am not a true believer yet. I have enjoyed my Abu products and am interested also in the new abu garcia s series bait cast. I am interested though if Lew's makes a better reel at a similar price point.

They maybe made at the same factory but Lew's is a totally separate reel company. They are headquartered right near BPS in Springfield Mo. If you notice, BPS does not sell Lews. From what I understand, Johnny Morris had a fallen out with them. Personally, I think he is using his business power to bully them. Anyway, I've used a few Lews reels and a lot of guys are going to them because of the lower cost and they are happy with them. I like them but not enough to shelf my Shimanos.

I use Lews....Im highly pleased with it. one of the best values for the buck in my opinion.

I have a couple of each and I have noticed that I usually reach for the Lew's more often than not. They are very smooth and were easy to get dialed in. Can't remember the last time I had a backlash on either of my Lew's reels. Plus they are much easier on the wallet. I would highly recommend them.

I have always though Lews was more pricey than Abu. You can get 3 (imo) decent reels for under $100 in the Abu line, but I thought Lews starts around $100. Lews from my knowledge has a better starting point for the $ on bearings.

I have a Revo SX3 and Lews Pro Speed Spool.  Mike at DVT hot rodded my Revo with bearings and tuning, putting it at a price point just higher than the Lews.  They both cast great, are smooth as silk.  The Lews braking system is a less finicky than the Abu.  Both are light, and palm great.

 

Either way you won't go wrong.

I personally perfer lews, but I agree with dogbone either way you can't go wrong both are very good reel companies.

The newest Lew's hot rod (Team Lite) truly is phenomenal for the $. I was using it last night and just kept getting blown away at how far I can rocket my crankbait with just the flick of my wrist. No muscle, no arm, just a little flick and they are in the next county.

My Team Pro continues cast light baits incredibly well. My dad has a couple Super Duty's, Tournament Lite, and BB-1 Inshore. He's enamored with them all.

I use both. Personally I think they are both great reel companies. They both are easy to dial in quickly and result in almost no backlash, even for baitcasting beginners like myself. I would say that I tend to be able to get more distance out of the Lews than the Abu Garcia, so if I had to choose I would go for the Lews.

I Have 3 , I purchased an entry reel at Walmart , the Lew's MCS speed spool laser , I used it one season and found them to be truly amazing reels for less than 100 bucks , compared to the other reels I have in that same price range , quantum , pflueger , my casting distance improved along with trying this reel out in other areas as well like pitching , skipping , less professional overruns otherwise known as backlashes , nesting etc... LOL ! They are quite versatile , I liked it so much that I went and purchased 2 tournament Lite reels from Lew's , the braking systems on these tournament lite's are amazing with 27 positions , each click you can actually see a noticeable change especially with distance , the spool tensioner also has a click style adjustment that won't move , the best part is when you cast it out with ease , the bait really reaches out there with very little effort on your part , I am extremely happy with Lew's and their products .

The entry level Lews aren't expensive at all. I am assuming that you're referring to the Black Max from Abu, the entry level American Hero and Laser series from Lews, is far better than the Max line from Abu IMO; about the same price too. Retail on the Hero is 59 and Laser 79, they're readily available for less than retail.

I have my 4th Lew's reel on the way! I also recently got one of their "Custom Speed Stick" rods(drop shot spinning) and am extremely impressed. Both are great companies, but the way things are going, it looks like I've found my favorite by far.

I own a couple of Lews speed spools (6.4:1, 7.1:1) and a Revo S and SX. I do like the Revo's better but have not had any issues with the Lews. The things I like about the Revo's are the click on the brake and drag, but once you get the Lews set they are spot on and they seem easier to palm with smaller diameter rods.

X2. They're great reels but I still think Shimanos are a little better, especially concerning palm ability and casting distance.

I just bought my second lews and as a weekend angler that just started baitcasting reels 2 years ago ( started out with a abu garcia) I can honestly I can't remember the last time I backlashed I really like these lews reels it would be hard for me to change unless my budget increased and even then I would probably buy a higher lews

I have used both, I now own 7 Lews,,,,,, they are made in the same place but I can assure you they are far from the same. Both are nice reels, I prefer the Lew's!! I started with the Tournament and MG, after being convinced of the quality and features,,,, I have SD, BB1, and a slug of Team Gold's and an original Team,,, you can't go wrong and in my opinion they are as good as reels costing twice as much,,,,regardless of Manufacturer,,,,,,,,,

Love my Lews, having purchased 2 new Shimano reels in the last 6 months.

I still like my Lews better. Not sure why I keep buying Shimano.

My next reel will be a Lews

I got a couple of Lews reels last fall.  I find myself using them more than my others(Shimano, Abu, BPS PQ).
