stkbassn Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Hey guys, just like the title says I may purchase one of these in the 7.1:1 ratio. I have an extra rod that I would like to throw a decent reel on for buzzbaits. I don't use buzzbaits much but want this combo to be designated for that purpose. Found the Orra SX for under $100 new on Ebay and figured it couldn't be a terrible reel, right? Any other sub $100 reels in 7.1:1 recommended? Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 I have an Orra SX that I like a lot, but I probably wouldn't pay $100 for another. On the other hand, I got a Quantum Smoke 7:1 for under a c-note and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another at that price. Quote
Penguino Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Lol at 100$, why would you get an orra sx? Just saying... There is plenty of better reels at the 100$ price point. 1 Quote

Penguino Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Funny way of wording it to someone Whois just looking for a lil help lol I probably could have worded it better. But what I am trying to say is that at full retail, the orra sx cant compare to other reels. Better options in that range would be the PQ, shimano citica, or quantum acccurist. Quote

Amen. daiwa tatula off e bay, shimano citica, daiwa exceler, even the lews speed spool is better. l owned an orra sx and I won't be getting another one... Quote
stkbassn Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Sorry guys, I didn't quote exact price...found the orra at 88 shipped, new. I have chronarchs, curados, citicas , and a lews ...don't really care what reel around that price, just want a decent quality reel thats going on an extra rod ,used little, one purpose...probably in the next few weeks. ..thanks for the responses so far. GoTakeANap Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 i have a Orra SX combo I bought 2 years ago. I hate that rod/reel. I would not recommend it. Please go a different route. Just coming from the heart. Haha Quote

fishangdood Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I did a lot of reel tuning for my fishing group this past winter, and the orra2 sx (this is the one, right?) has the same form factor as the Revo 3 S, SX, STX, Inshore, and Premier. The gearbox sideplate is smaller like the ALT, MGX, Mgxtreme, and the list will go on with the JDM models. So where I'm getting at is this, the same aftermarket parts, like shallow spools for the SX can be installed onto it (you'll need to order the pinion gear shaft). Parts are easily swappable. My favorite part though, is the spring loaded cambolt with thumb access which frees up the palm side plate to open. I actually prefer that than to unscrew and pull the cambolt with my finger nail like in the revo series. I say go for it. You can either pay a whallop for a higher end abu low pro like an mgx, or in time, if you get bored, piece by piece transform it into an mgx or ltx. All my revo gen 3's are hybrids just like my ambassadeurs. Quote
stkbassn Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate all of the insight and opinions. I probably won't go this route based on the prices of some of the more popular reels right now..the Tatula looks good at the sub 100 price on Ebay. I'll keep this reel in mind as reviews have been pretty consistent in favor of that reel. Never been a Daiwa fan but will try this one soon.....Why not! If the Tatula works as well as the reviews say I might get one for my cranking set up this summer as well. Quote
