The bait monkey delivered my JDM Scorpion XT 1001 yesterday.  Pretty sweet reel.  On the box, it says "with SUPER SHIP".  Does anyone know if thIs is the same thing as X-SHIP?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes, just keep it away from kryptonite.

Congratulations.  Got my first Scorpion (used) recently, but it is the 4x4 SVS.  Don't know what the difference is.  Haven't looked.  Might make me want to spend more money.  :teeth:

Dave, you should fill out your profile so we have an idea what kind of water you might be fishing.  It helps sometimes in making recommendations for such things as a new rod.  You did get a new rod to go with that new reel, didn't you?  :teeth3:

I mean, I'm sure he did. That's the golden rule of fishing isn't it? Thou shall purchase thy new rod for every new reel.

I bookended the offseason with a rod at the end of last year, and now this reel at the beginning of this year.  I wouldn't think of violating a golden rule! :eyebrows:

Phew! I had finger on the ban button for flagrant foul on the bait_monkey.

:D

Let's see that combo in a fish catch pic!

AFAIK, shimano's super ship and X-ship are not the same thing. super ship used fattened-up, wide gears for increased contact area between the main and pinion gears and shifted the supporting bearing closer to the gear teeth. X-ship, OTOH, incorporates an additional bearing so that both ends of the pinion gear are supported.

new2BC4bass, the scorpion 1000 that you have is based on the same platform as the USDM curado 100D but with a 4-step externally-adjustable centrifugal braking system. it was right before the trend of slinging the gearbox below the reel foot became de rigueur. the scorpion 1000XT shares the same platform as the 50-size E-series reels like the curado and chronarchs.
