First time out, fishing a small 292 acre small lake in southern WV. Water level was up quite a bit and water color was a bit stained due to a lot of recent rain.

Got there around noon and fished until about 5:30. Caught 8 Largemouth on a Rapala Shadow Rap in Smelt color. Three of those came on three casts. Also hooked a monster crappie that weighed over two lbs.

Also caught a nice bass in deep on a chrome/orange/black wiggle wart.

All of the bass were between a pound and 3lbs but I couldn't be happier my first time out for the year.

Today showed me that the Rapala Shadow Rap is as advertised.

I have heard from some other anglers that i respect that the shadow rap is indeed the real deal.  And i told myself i was going to go all summer and only by terminal tackle as it ran out......that just might change :)

I always go with a traditional shad color for clear water and a crawfish orange or tiger perch or something of that nature of dark water. A bright look can sometimes cause a reaction strike on bass that are being hard to deal with.

shadow raps are nice indeed. great action and I have caught fish on mines. Only wish the hooks were stronger. Looks like they will bend eventually. They are super sharp though!

I'm curious. I don't have a deep diving jerkbait. Anyone have any favorite colors? I liked the way the moss shiner looked or carbon

I always like to go perch color on the deep divers, but really depends where abouts your going to use it most.  The beauty of fishing when you think about it, a perch may be best over some weeds but then a shad or shiner would look better diving into a pebble or stone bottom. Its how the lure companies get us to keep coming back for more!

I lost mine last week on a rope hanging from a dock.  Was fishing from the bank and the dock has a gate with a lock to access it so I couldn't get it.. too cold to jump in.  :cry4:

Haha that is awesome. I was planning on doing the same thing. For some reason there is a voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me I need more lures and a new rod...weird.

I was skeptical at first, but they are actually quite nice. I haven't caught anything on mine yet, but that will soon change.

I love the shadow rap!! I fish Lake Hartwell and I am throwing same colors as the guys in the Classic were throwing and I am KILLING the fish. I caught 2 on back to back cast. I have never fished jerk baits much before this year and I have fell in love with the shadow rap. It is amazing!

The bait monkey got me.  I have two on the way, along with a 9'6" Microlite to try some Float'n'Fly fishing since water temps near me are in the 40s still.  Will try new Rapalas as soon as they show up.

I hope you have better luck than me. I went in to buy some drop shot weights and a replacement 3XD Saturday. I came out with a Loomis E6X 3 spools of line, and a 3XD. Now I have to go back to get my DS weights.

I've bought 2 and found 1, have yet to catch a fish on one and I've caught a lot of jerkbait fish this spring  :Idontknow:

6 years later, but it still produces for me! I actually caught my PB bass by throwing the Olive Green Shadow Rap into a culvert in the middle of the summer! I had to replace the hooks after a few fish though, but the bait itself is great!

I've got a Shadow Rap Shad that was in the $5 box at WalMart I keep in my go box. I've caught some bank fishing and from the kayak with it. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if I lost it but it's okay.

Never caught a largemouth on one, but crushed the pike and smallies last year at Rainy Lake with one that was plain old silver and black. Looked just like the Cisco they were munching on.
