nolantitleist Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hey guys I am going to upgrade my rod. I have been fishing a Berkley Lightening 7ft MH rod mostly with soft plastics and jigs. I want something that is going to be a pretty versatile rod. For the time being it will be the only baitcaster that I fish. I am looking for something in the $80 to $120 range. Right now I am thinking about a *** *** Black 7'1" MH. What do you think I should get and why? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 I like my new Carbonlites (white) from Bass Pro. $100 range. I'm using 4 now, two for spinning, two for casting. Two black, two white, in each style. They're great, super-light. Quote
robster80 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 cabelas tournament zx. on sale for 69 right now Quote
SenkoGuru Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 The Duckett Ghost is a fantastic rod at $99 Quote
bass1980 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 The *** handle is a hit or miss for people but I would take the 5 yr warranty on the *** vs the 1 yr warranty on the Ghost any day. Quote
Big C Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 7' 6" ML Carrot Stick. I have used mine with 50lb. braid and frogs, and 12lb. mono. with shakey heads it's a very versitile rod. Th ML isn't too light it actually has a pretty solid back bone. Contrary to popular belief Carrot Stix don't snap in half when you hook into bluegill, nor do they Spontaniously combust on your first cast. They are really great rods for only $99. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 My vote goes to Carbonlite or Veritas. Quote
yakingfisherman Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I use my *** 7'1 mh for so many applications. Jigs, frogs, topwater, spinnerbait, bladed jigs, 3/4 oz lipless cranks, etc. So versatile, great sensitivity and balance. Customer service is also top notch! Quote
John G Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Powell is life time! From the Powell website regarding the Inferno. 5-Year Warranty starting from the date of manufacture if not registered, or the date of purchase if registered online or by mail Quote
ChrisWi Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 From the Powell website regarding the Inferno. my mistake, was thinking of the Max 3D Quote
stkbassn Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I really like the Powell Diesel rods. I like all Powell but for the price it's a great rod. Who needs a warranty at that price anyway? My experience with the Diesel line up has been nothing but positive and mine have held up very well to stripers, catfish, and bass. It's really an incredible rod at that price point. Powell does not make junk at any level. You will hear differing opinions of course. If you check with the fish ranger you can get them for $49 bucks right now....this is the first series, not the new ones. I don't have the new one yet...may pick one up to compare at some point. The Inferno I have not held...The Max and Endurance are great but much higher in price. Quote

rosshilk Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Duckett Ghost are the best rods available for $99 dollars. They are amazingly light and sensitive and will be the only rod I am interested in purchasing in the future. Quote
stkbassn Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I don't know about you but $80 ain't easy for me to come by if a Rod breaks. I've never broken a rod in my life but I doubt many warranties that offer replacement are that much cheaper. I think a lot of people focus on that big statement about Powell not offering a warranty at that price point but it's a quality rod as well. Owning several I speak from experience and personally I've enjoyed them more than any rod in that price range . For example, the *** hurt my hands after only a few hours ..the Diesel doesn't. Both offer quality at a reasonable price....just offering a suggestion to the op...how many rods at the price he's looking for are worth buying a warranty for anyway.. Quote
zeth Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I'll say it again along with many others. Bass Pro Shops makes great rods. Now if you want to spend more I can vouch for Phenix M1 series rods. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 The veritas micro guide 2.0, or the ***. The ghost is good too. But I would go with the Veritas. Quote
