jcoffman55 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Did a brief search and don't know if it has been covered before. I love Elaztech, I love JJ's. Don't know why I haven't discovered this unfortunate phenomenon before. But JJ's dissolved my Z man's lizard yesterday and I mean instantly lol. Now my JJ's is full of little black flakes from my watermelon lizard. In other, happier news, when I replaced said dissolved lizard, and threw out my mojo rig. I was happy to find that the bass were on the beds in my local pond and attacked the lizard with much ferocity. All in all it was a good day. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Same thing with the Strike King 3X plastics. That's a no no Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 You can't put Z-man baits with other plastic baits,it will melt them also! JJ's is a great sent on all or most other plastic's! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 It's hilariously ironic to me that Elaztech is all but indestructible to the fish but there are about a thousand other things that simply make them mush in seconds. Quote
BannedForSpamming-1234555 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I gotta be careful when I store my elaztech baits Quote
KyAngler_1120 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It has been a few years ago now, but I remember the first time I ever seen JJ's in action. My fishing buddy was STOKED about his first bottle and was basically giving me the sales pitch of how great the stuff was going to be. He cracked open the bottle and dipped a Netbait Paca Chunk SR jig trailer...IDK what he did, but he pulled that chunk out and the claws just dissolved right off the body. It was just ironic to me and I could have rolled on the deck laughing. I have since used JJ's with Netbait with no problems, but on that day it just ate the plastic up. Seems like some plastics constructions are not JJ's proof lol. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 If you want to keep using Elaztech I'm pretty sure Kick'n Bass won't dissolve it and it's a great scent! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 8, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2015 They do make a dye specifically for Elaztec baits though, no idea if it works or not. Quote

It only happened with one bag and I haven't had it happen since. The power of JJ's is always worth the test dip to me. On the Z-Man note, yeah.... JJ's and Z-Man don't get along well. I've tried dipping the trailers that come with chatterbaits before. They dissolve into several pieces almost instantly. Quote
desmobob Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I remember reading that it was a known issue (JJ's dissolving Z-Man baits) when I bought my first bottle of JJ's Magic. I also remember test-dipping a Z-Man bait to see what would happen... ...and nothing happened. It didn't dissolve it OR dye it. I don't remember what Z-Man bait I tried or what color JJ's it was, though. Nevertheless, I have not dipped any Z-Man (or other brands of Elaztech-type plastic) baits in JJ's Magic since then and have no plans to do it. Tight lines, Bob Quote
