DCfishing Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I currently use an Ugly Stik GX2 7'0" Medium action rod that was a gift, but it's too heavy and has no sensitivivity(but the main issue is weight)... I fish for largemouth bass(no bigger than 3 lbs), only, and was considering picking up a baitcasting setup, but decided to just find a better spinning rod. Any suggestions? I have $50 to spend at the most... Thanks! Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The president is a nice reel. If this is going to be your main rod i would get a 6'6 mh rod and put a 10 lb braid on it. It is easy to tie a double uniknot if you want to use a mono or floro leader. For under 50 I don't have a recommendation but to just go to the store and feel them. For about $60 you could get. a okuma reflection which is a nice multi purpose rod. Quote

I'll definitely take a look at this rod! Quote
kcdinkerz Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Man I thought those gx2 were nice lol. Wait for a sale and save up, sometimes you can find 100$ rods for half the price. Check out tackle warehouse, and other sporting goods store. Even Wal-Mart has decent rods on sale sometimes. Quote
jbw252 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Berkley Lightning Rod Shock spinning rod - right at your budget level. Get a 6'6" medium. Comes in either 1 or 2 piece, to suit your transportation choice. Lightweight & strong. Pflueger reels are a great bang for your buck. Good luck. 1 Quote

The GX2s are sturdy as hell(good luck trying to break it), but they're just heavy and have no sensitivity... Quote
DCfishing Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Lighting or Lightning Shock!? Although, I've heard the eyes break quite easily on these 2 rods... Quote
