Andre_g123 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I'm about to order a phenix m1 7'2 m rod having trouble deciding what reel to pair with it. Id like to keep it around $150 thinking about the Abu Garcia Revo SX or maybe quantam smoke. Feedback on those 2 reels or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It will be used mostly for plastic worms and jigs. Quote
RyanFishing Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Hands down the best spinning reel for 150 is the Pflueger Supreme XT. It's a great reel and worth much more than the 150 price tag. Quote
Verisimilidude Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Just bought my gf the new Daiwa Procyon EX. It's one of the smoothest reels i've ever had the pleasure of using. Quote
RMcDuffee726 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Pflueger President, save $90. Incredible reel. Don't need to spend $150 with a reel like this on the market, I promise you! Quote
bigfishbk86 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Just bought my gf the new Daiwa Procyon EX. It's one of the smoothest reels i've ever had the pleasure of using. I agree with the procyon ex. Even the new exceler for $80 is an amazing reel Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Incredible reel. Don't need to spend $150 with a reel like this on the market, I promise you!Tell me where this reel is manufactured and by whom?Tom Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 My vote goes to the Shimano Saros. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Pflueger President, save $90. I have a President and I love it, with 150$ you have a ton of options but I don't think you would be disappointed the slightest bit if you went with the 60$ Pflueger President. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 I've used the Revo S and Revo Premier. They're both great reels and although I've never used the a SX I think it's safe to say that it's a very solid performer and that you'd like it. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Tell me where this reel is manufactured and by whom? Tom No answer. You would think a American reel mfr like Pflueger-Shakespeare and Abu Garcia would be made in the USA or Switzerland.Pflueger spinning reels are made in mainland China. Your better quality spinning reels today are made in S.Korea, Tiwain and Mtaylasia, the highest end baitcasting reels are made in Japan. When you buy Pflueger you are supporting China. Daiwa and Shimano spinning reels are Korea, Tiwain or Mtaylasia. Things to consider. Tom Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 I won't get into the politics of various country's of manufacture, however the Daiwa Ex Ballistic is a good looking option & one I'm currently debating, I own many Daiwa and Shimano as well as a pflueger president 6935. I like them all just fine! Quote

Tom Umm... so are you saying that just because something is manufactured in Korea it's better than something made in China?? Lol that just doesn't kinda make sense to me. In China, due to the cheap labor costs, reels can be cheaper but also less quality due to the unlearned workers. So essentially its a tradeoff. Would you sacrifice quality for the possibility of a better reel at a cheaper price? But just saying that something's manufacturing location determines its value is completely wrong. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Regardless of the country of origin, the pflueger spinning reels are tough to beat. i have a supreme MGX and a patriarch and honestly can't tell a difference in the two performance wise.... I'd buy the supreme every day at retail and if you find it cheap (like i did) it's a no-brainer. For me, the $100 point is the point of diminishing return on the spinning reels. I just don't see enough performance boost in the reels above $100 to justify that extra expense. but that's my very unprofessional opinion.... Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I bought a Pflueger President two years ago based on reviews and price. It's been my favorite reel. I have it paired up with a 7' Berkley Shock Lightning rod. Best combo I've ever had. 1 Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Hands down the best spinning reel for 150 is the Pflueger Supreme XT. It's a great reel and worth much more than the 150 price tag. x2 I like it better than the patriarch, and like it better than the saros I had. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 Either the Pflueger Supreme or the a Shimano Stradic. The Supreme is the best bang for the buck but the Stradic is the better reel. Both would serve you well. Quote
DTack Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I have not used the pflueger reels myself, they have RAVE reviews though and I'm sure for good reason. I've used Shimano Symetres in multiple designs and have always loved them to the point I've not even considered a higher priced reel. I'm sure they feel a bit better, but the drag on my symetres have not failed me yet and I've had no nervousness at any point that they are going to. Quote
Heron Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Pflueger President, save $90. Agreed 100% Me personally, I would never spend $150 on a spinning reel...for bass fishing. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 2 Pflueger Presidents and a spool of top shelf braid to put on them... That'll be right in your $150 wheelhouse. I say this because I own a Pflueger Supreme XT and Abu Revo SX spinning reels and can't really tell the difference between them and my Presidents. Quote
paleus Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I've never understood spending a lot on a spinning reel. I get it with baitcasters because of the brakes and bearings playing a role in casting. But, with a spinning reel, what do you get when you spend more, a little smoother drag and lighter weight? 1 Quote
yugrac Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Pflueger, Pflueger , Pflueger. Thats all there is to say. Quote

Tom And Shimano Daiwa have products made in China as well so when you buy a Shimano Daiwa product be it Japan Malaysian Thailand you keep their businesses going as a whole, thus supporting China. THE BASS WHISPERER Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Stradic, a little more but i love them I AGREE!!!!! 1 Quote
