GaterB Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I'll be in Savannah GA all summer and was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to go to bank fish for bass, as well as inshore species such as reds, trout, flounder, etc Any help is greatly appreciated! Quote
AllTerrainAngler Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 So i'm not a saltwater fisherman at all. But what i can catch fish on around savannah is either live target shrimp with a cajun thunder popping cork or live shrimp with the same cork. You can actually fish the canals around savannah for largemouth as crazy as it sounds. You'll catch bass and snakeheads but the bass are easy to catch and usually have a pretty good size to them. AllTerrainAngler Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Yeah I've actually caught them in savannah. My girlfriend HATES going places with me because I will fish anywhere with legal water. I was going through savannah and saw this awful looking canal by a mall and decided to walk it with a frog since it had a lot of vegetation and possibly bodies. Who knows there. Nonetheless after an Hour or so I had caught several 1-2 pound bass and a snakehead. They're pretty common in georgia. You can catch them all day in creeks around here. I never knew how many there were until we shocked random creeks with the DNR in my wildlife biology classes. Quote

I try to stay away from waters that might have bodies in them; but then again every body of water around here most likely has a body in it. Quote
AllTerrainAngler Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Yeah. They do. Almost exactly. The tails are different. That's probably the easiest way to tell. Not sure where you're from in Georgia. But if you know where lake tobesofkee is there's a lot of bowfin and snakehead in the creek itself up where it gets clear. I try to avoid it too but there's no telling with Georgia. Quote

I'm in south Carolina right on the border but I travel to Georgia a good bit. We have tons of bowfin right here. Just looked up a snake head and you can keep them lol. Quote
GaterB Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 How far you willing to travel to have a fun time fishing? How long will you be in savannah I'll be around until September. My job limits my time significantly, but on a day off I'll travel a pretty good distance for good fishing! Quote
blackmax135 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 You ever fish the savannah river? There's a place I've been wanting to put my boat in at but I have nobody to go with me. I've been looking on Google maps and it looks like there's a lot of potential. We could go down river fish reds and go up and fish bass. I fish savannah river a lot but never been that far down. I'll be around until September. My job limits my time significantly, but on a day off I'll travel a pretty good distance for good fishing! Quote
AllTerrainAngler Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I know a killer spot in savannah to catch tarpon and reds. Quote

AllTerrainAngler Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 If you can get down to Christmas creek. It's money. I've fly fished for tarpon down there. And if you go in at the right time you will be set for the day. Quote

The absolute very best place to catch large mouth bass from the bank in Savannah is in a subdivision called the Landings on Skidaway Is. Only problem is you have to know someone who lives there so that they can call you in a pass. They have 26 ponds that are managed by the CCA. You will catch 2 to 8 lb's all day. Great fishing. Good luck and enjoy your time in our fair city. 1 Quote
