DCfishing Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Also, what's the best for under $75? I'm actually looking to pay over the $100 mark for the Daiwa Tatula Type R, but I'm wondering if there are any suggestions for a lower priced reel... Thanks, in advance! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 5, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 5, 2015 If you can find the H2O Mettle on sale it is a great reel for the money. I just bought 2 for $40 last week. 1 Quote

Grantman83 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I'm gonna go with a cabelas prodigy. It's basically a lexa with a 4 bearing handle and is on sale for $69. Also the cabelas prodigy which is an all aluminum (frame and sideplates) reel on sale for $100 Quote

Also the cabelas prodigy which is an all aluminum (frame and sideplates) reel on sale for $100 That is what I thought too, but the Prodigy is an Exceler. It has aluminum frame but composite sideplates (both sides) and a 4bearing handle which means, to me, it's only a good deal when it's on sale for $70. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The plain-Jane, non-R Tatula! Tight lines, Bob Still #1 for $100. Quote

I own 2 lexas, 2 excelers and now a prodigy and for $70 they are a steal Quote
DCfishing Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Still #1 for $100. Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it? Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it? http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwatattyper.html This might help answer your question. In my opinion, no it's not worth it unless you have a black/red rod that matches the type r. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 LFS Heck, my old SS1HL was a heck of a reel at I believe $65 new on closeout at DSG. Can't get over the value in those entry level Lew's reels. Quote

BasshunterJGH Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I have the the lfs as well. Great little reel. Dont think you could go wrong with either. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 6, 2015 Super User Posted April 6, 2015 Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it? To each his own. Personally the finish alone is worth it to me even if casting performance is the same. Also I am liking the 8.1:1 ratio of the Type R which isn't available in the standard Tat. My standard Tat hasn't been spooled yet. Bought used for less than your $100 limit. The best reel under $100 is a used one that listed for $200 new. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 16, 2017 Super User Posted June 16, 2017 Wow. Sure has been slow lately. At least this thread isn't 10 years old. Always nice to know what current reels are the best for your buck. Surely a few more will jump in with suggestions. Quote
