speed craw Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 You will definitely like the 705cb , works great for small to medium depth crankbaits. Also doubles as a great jerkbait rod . Quote
travis23 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I got the 705cbmf a month or so ago and I love it. I understand their a bit different, but I'm sure you will enjoy it nonetheless. I've really been impressed with the 3 Dobyns I have now! Quote
Mista bass Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Let me know how you like it. I was thinking about picking this up. Quote

Pio Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Which 705 would be better, the 705cb or the 705cbmf? Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I just got the Dobyns 704CB Glass and it is perfect for the 1/4oz Bandits, etc. Quote
DTack Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Which 705 would be better, the 705cb or the 705cbmf? What baits are you thinking of using this for? Quote
Pio Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 What baits are you thinking of using this for? Mainly square bills and lipless cranks. Quote
Robert Riley Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Mainly square bills and lipless cranks. I'd honestly say the 735, I prefer the faster tip for lipless and squarebills. But if the 705CB is a bit faster than the 705CBMF. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 Which 705 would be better, the 705cb or the 705cbmf? If you look around, the reviews seem to be pretty unanimously glowing in favor of the regular 705 CB & glass versions in the fast taper. When you get to the mod fast glass rod though, it gets dicey and people get their feelings hurt pretty regularly. Unless you know for a fact you want a moderate glass rod and exactly why, I'd go with a regular fast taper and keep the decision between the regular 705 CB or the 705 CB glass. I went with the 705 fast glass personally but I don't think you can really make a bad choice between the two. Quote
Bigchunk Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 This thing is nice for lipless, i feel the mf wouldnt snap grass as well, even though it is glass, its way differnt then the shimano tc4 glass,at least to me. alot less whippy. It really is a sweet rod i love it, havnt really got to fish it much a few cast off the patio wherr ice is out 30 feet Quote

Is this from personal experience? I'm not trying to say "you're wrong," but personally I can't see myself using the 735c for treble hooks lures. Quote
Grantman83 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I have used the 734 for treble baits in a pinch and it did fine. The 735 is a beast so I assume the drag would have to be backed off a bit. The soft tip might be good for big jerkbaits and lipless baits that are in heavy grass but other than those I would be worried. 2 Quote

My mistake, I should have said 734. Buddy has one and I've used it, seems like a good spinnerbait rod. I use my spinnerbait rod, a st Croix, for lipless. On another note, glass is always tricky, some like it and some dont, it's a different beast. Go buy one, try it out, if you don't like it take advantage of Dobyns amazing customer service Quote
DTack Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Mainly square bills and lipless cranks. If you were ONLY throwing lipless cranks, I would possibly recommend the 705cbmf... This rod is just plain "slower" in reaction and for easy way of putting it "bends down to the reel handle". Not everyone likes that, some "old school" guys REALLY love this rod and believe it cannot be replaced as far as not pulling out treble hooks. The only thing you run into is if you fish around heavy grass you may have problems ripping the bait free of grass with this rod. Are you looking into the 705cb glass or 705cb graphite? I have used both, I PERSONALLY use the 705cb graphite. I just prefer graphite rods for cranks and ripbaits. I really think the graphite crank rods from Dobyns are awesome actions. I feel like you have the right amount of give and feel with the rods. The 705cb (graphite) is my go to rod for squarebills (kvd 2.5, 1.5, lucky craft bds2, bds3, bds4), my lipless cranks and large ripbaits (vision 110magnum, pointer 128). There have been a lot of times where I wish I had two or more. I just got done catching a few 5 lbers last weekend on Clear Lake and the 705cb kept them hooked up with a lot of line out and a few jumps from each. Quote

Arv Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I use the 705cb graphite. I haven't tried the glass rod, but after trying the graphite I didn't see a need to switch. I like it a lot. Quote
