Went out this evening for the little bit of free time I had. All in all I was fishing for about 15-20 minutes. Conditions were a tad windy. I litterally only took two rods out with me with the two lures tied on I used the last time I went fishing. 1 had a jig on it, and the other was a super spook jr. I was throwing the jig around the bank lines, swimming etc. with no luck, so decided to switch to the spook. Both are my confidence baits when nothing else works, but lately the spook has outshined my jig. I threw the spook parralel to the bank I was fishing the jig already. There was a thin tree limb that had fallen into the water from directly above. You could see some of it sticking out of the water. As soon as the spook passed the limb it got smacked hard. I knew it was a good fish as soon as I set the hook and could feel the weight of the fish. She didnt wanna meet me either. Fight was great! It was a one fish night, but I was def. satisfied! Unfortunatly I didnt get to weigh her, so Im hoping maybe you could help me with an estimate.

Hey wait a sec... on March 21, 2015 you posted you hated this time of year... ;)

Congratulations, and nice looking fish! Also congrats on the new PB. I believe that bait selection is an important factor this time of year. If one thing isn't working and you believe you have fished an area thoroughly that could be holding fish, don't be afraid to try something different. It could very well mean the difference between catching them and not catching them!

You got me! Its just been really tough up until yesterday actually. I caught two decent fish yesterday, four in all. Then this one today. I'm not a very good angler when I have to fish painfully slow. Reaction strikes are my thing. I fish banks a lot, and that's where 95% of my fish come from. When fish aren't in shallow water, or won't chase cranks or swimming a jig, I'm lost.

I'm kinda like A-Jay, if I guess a weight for your fish it may take away from your joy if you don't like my answer.  I will say congrats on your new PB, if you want to figure it out and get a guess on how long she was and look up what she should weigh then go for it.  But I'll let you solve that mystery without my help.  Glad to see you're now posting about catching a fish this weekend instead of well lets just say being frustrated by everyone elses reports. Nice fish.

You wouldnt hurt my feelings. Ill be the first to admit Im not the best at guessing weight. I didnt have my scale, nor did I get any measurements. Humor me.

Well the fish in my Avatar was right around 8lbs, and guessing you're approx 180-200lbs, fish held out to look bigger, I'm gonna guess between 5.5-6.5lbs.  Then again she might be bigger if you're like 6'6 and like 240lbs which then an 8lb fish would look really small with you holding it up.  Sounds like you need to start carrying a scale now.

Did you happen to measure the length? That helps almost as much as a picture unless the fish is super fat.

To me it looks like you're right on the money with your 5-6 pound guess.

I'll take it. My guess (for whatever its worth) was right around six pounds. My prior PB was around 5.5.

For the record I'm 6'1 180# lol. Even if this fish is 5 3/4 pounds, I'm celebrating a new PB.
