Ultra7580 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Any of you guys try these new Winn fishing grips. I see some of the cabelas rods come with them. You can also buy them and put them on any rods. I'm interested and want to see if any one has actually used them or put them on any of their rods. Quote
robster80 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 ive got winn grips that came on my cabelas zx rod and love em to death 1 Quote
long island basser Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I also have one of the zx rods. Like the grips very much, feels good in hand wet or dry. And right now for 69 bucks I highly recommend these rods, really nice. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted April 5, 2015 Super User Posted April 5, 2015 Just installed one on a NRX for someone. Been using them on various rods since 2011. 1 Quote
Ultra7580 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 How was it to install on the nrx. Any difficulties or problems. I just don't want to buy them and scree it up outing them on my rods. Looks like it shouldn't be to hard to do. And also that set up looks great. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted April 5, 2015 Super User Posted April 5, 2015 It was a pretty easy install, but I did more to it than just the grip. I trimmed some length off of the butt and that's also a new reel seat. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted April 5, 2015 Super User Posted April 5, 2015 I'm thinking about trying a Winn on my next custom Quote
Ultra7580 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Nice job. One of these days I'm going to try to order stuff and build a rod myself Quote
Mr. Bassin II Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I have a couple of rods with the tour star products grips by Winn and I they feel great. Looks like will be seen on more rods in the future. A company called Hammer Rods offers a line with these grips as well. Quote
Sonik Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I have 6 of the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods and I can't see me using any other style grip going forward. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. If I got into rod building, that's what I'd do. I went out yesterday and caught them on shallow squarebills and felt the wobble/ticking all the way. Quote
offsidewing Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I bought the Cabelas ZX baitcast for me in Crankbait and worm spinning rod for my 13 y/o son. The palm swell and Winn Grip feel so good on the spinning reel I'm thinking about having them installed on my St Croix LTB spinning rod. 1 Quote
Fish_Whisperer Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Gonna revive this one with a question... Any builders here know how much they will affect the weight of the rod? Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Can you buy these things to put on any rod? If so what is the process? Pretty simple? I'm very interested in these. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Yes, Winn grips can be put onto any rod. When I bought my Orochi xx rod's I had the idea of adding Winn grips once the filler starts to fall out from the cork grips. http://www.winngripsfishing.com/ http://www.tourstarproducts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4 Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted May 4, 2015 Super User Posted May 4, 2015 I have a 7" what they call natural color lying in wait for a personal rod. With the matching butt cap in place, it weighs 0.68oz. A similar 7" cork grip, with composite butt cap weighs 0.81oz. The Winn grip is a bit more sculpted out, to a slightly narrower diameter in the middle, than the cork, so some, if not most, of the weight difference is there. Quote
