Greatbull Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Hi there... New here... Here is my dilema... I have a 899 SI and a 788 DI... I am trying to decide wich one i'll put in the console... I think i would like to get SI imaging on the bow, but i do not want the transducer to turn with the trolling motor... Would it be ridiculous to mount the transducer on the transom, and get the US2 from the Trolling motor on the unit using a Y cable? Should i just put the SI unit in the console? What would u do? Thanks for your inputs... G.B. B.T.W. Hope my english is good... Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 4, 2015 Super User Posted April 4, 2015 What is the deal with not using a SI tranducer on the trolling motor? I have been doing that since I got the first SI unit. I have four SI units now. If you know how to operate a Humminbird SI unit, it would not be an issue. If you get sonar data from a boat length away, what you see displayed will be a boat length offset. 1 Quote

Comfortably Numb Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Wayne, with Si td on trolling motor, I am curious what you see on si if the tm is pointed 90* left or or right so the si is pointing foward. ty Quote

If you are sitting still and turn the motor at a rate that matches the scroll speed, it looks like the 360. If you have the correct scroll speed for the boat speed, when you turn the motor, that is faster than the scroll speed and the effect on the image is barely noticeable. Just common sense that the imaging pulses have to scan to produce the images. Pointed directly towards a subject is not scanning. Quote

I can rotate my tm allot of times before I can justify the 1500 dollar 360 transducer Quote
