with exactly 56 days until my 6 month ban at Lake Casitas is over (i was banned for 6 months due to "inappropriate comments and behavior" seriously ***) anyways. I have been doing some fishing at some other So-Cal spots these past 4 months, and here is what ive learned.

1.  Bard Lake or Woodranch Reservoir---amazing  , don't go , they have cameras now and they call the cops, plus the hike is horrendous and so is hopping the fence.

2.  my question is has anyone fished Las Virgenes Reservoir before?  ive been there fishing, once , but didn't catch anything. but it was in early december so ...  PM for instructions on where the hole in the fence is

Crazy how they close publically owned waters to fishing, thinking that public use contaminates raw water. Scientifically it's just not possible.

And ban you from Casitas? WTH? For disagreeing with the stupid quarantine or something? Anglers have got to band together and defeat these municipal nuts who think they can unilaterally bar us from our own lakes.

Hey come up tomorrow or Tuesday the fishing will be good, weather's perfect with the rainstorm on tues. the fish are spawning, dropshots and jigs in the middle of the day plus cranks and topwaters in the evening are the best baits. Bummer you got banned from casitas for a while. The whole quarantine thing is a pain in the ***

I wish i had the money to get up to lake lopez but alas i don't.  Seriously though  , i got a 6 month ban from Casitas for (i will quote the letter I received) " Inappropriate behavior and comments to staff "  as well as "ongoing issues and concerns".   The Park services officer who decided to do this has it in for me big time.  he told me one time that they could "charge me with assault" because he said I had waked the boat launch area and knocked a guy in the water (when i never did that, and I had a witness/employee saying otherwise, plus i am extremly courteous when it comes to boat) . I went to 2 board meetings, and tried to appeal , and met privatley on 2 occasions with the general manager but nothing.  Ive only been fishing there since october 2013 , but i have read every single minutes of every board meeting so i am fully aware of the insane idiocracy that place is run by.

That being said, I have fished everywhere else but casitas and it made me realize how much i love Casitas.  Ive gotten really good at Jerkbait fishing for halibut and i have mastered the barred surf perch (both of which are amazing to eat).

an update on Los Virgenes Reservoir, there are some crappy in there, and i saw a 15 lb catfish , but caught no bass while fishing there for about 5 hours, lost a lot of lures though.  maybe there are some bass in there but i saw none and caught none where i was fishing.  the water there is so clear its insane.

Too bad on casitas. They seemed pretty unhelpful and stuff that I don't want to say on the forum that I'd like to say about them. Jerk bait for halibut??! That sounds fun!! Hope you can make it up there cuze I got a 5 pounder on a lc pointer and some really nice smallies on topwaters!! Also the dropshot and gitizts worked well for us.

I wish anglers would band together and use the ballot measure initiative to overturn reservoir restrictions, quarantines, and the like. You'd need a lot of money to do it so you could run ads to inform the general public of the truth though, considering all the enviros in California.

Yeah, you're NEVER going to raise enough money to fight the Enviormentalists in CA.  If they had their way we wouldn't be able to fish anywhere.  And yes public waters are hard to find that are open, but are there.  I've grown up and I'm over trying to run from the Police or any other Athority that is after me for hoping a fence or going through a hole which has a big sign on it stating "NO TRESSPASSING".  Someone gos through a hole, slips off the bank, drowns, and then the family sues the agency incharge of that body of water for their loss or someone gos in a causes damage to the property costing money to fix or replace..  Public municipalities and county lakes have what we consider "stuipid" policies because STUPID PEOPLE do stupid things then sue causing us normal "what were you thinking" or "we are responsible for our selves" people to pay the price.   Just like fishing golf courses, some decide it would be more fun to throw the sand trap rakes in the water, tear up the tees and greens, leave their crap all over the golf course and irritate the people who live on or next to it.  As the saying go's one bad apple spoils the bunch.  Yep it sucks.

Morons at every level, be it government or otherwise, have a way of ruining things for everyone else. Although most cities and agencies are largely immune from such law suits and they are rarely if ever successful, it's another reason they use to bar us from places they don't want us in the first place. It's terrible in Colorado with the environmentals and they are almost impossible to fight. In California and Washington it's just a lost cause. Too much big money.

I totally agree with all of you. But what are we gonna do with all these people against us and our rights??

It's been almost impossible to change anything in Colorado, which is a big government state, and it would be MUCH harder in California which is Colorado on steroids. It would take money and massive outreach programs to make any sort of difference at all.

Yep it's such a shame... Just a few fisherman and people standing for there rights against all these others.

Not to get political, but that's why America was supposed to be a republic and not a democracy. In a republic, minority rights are to be protected. In a democracy, the majority can trample on the minority. California and many other states are run more like democracies, hence the problem.

Lakes Castaic, Pyrimid, Cachuma, Piru are open to the public, that is where you need to fish. West Lake and Sherwood are private, you need to befriend a resident to get a pass. Bard and the fenced reservior above West Lake are water storage lakes, you will be arrested if you fish those.

The ocean is close, fish there!

Tom

PS, you must have fished the closed area (Aires) at Casitas, they will ban you for that!

Im allowed back in on may 20th, but i haven't gotten the boat passed inspection yet.  take a look at the following picture that says exactly why i was banned.  I would never fish by the dam, ever.  I have been fishing the ocean, gotten pretty good at jerkbait fishing for halibut.  I have a pass to fish westlake already (resident pass from my friend) and i fished westlake a bunch , but from shore that place isn't that great and the 6lber i did catch had no fight in him.

casitas reasons .tiff

Just about all lakes are drinking water lakes in that they end up feeding others used primarily for that reason. We have modern treatment plants, and anglers aren't the ones that cause contamination. In fact, it really isn't human activity in a watershed anyway that contaminates. There is no need to close or heavily restrict because most are open to the public that owns them. The invasive species angle are the perfect excuse that water utilities have been hoping for in order to restrict or ban access, because they never wanted them open in the first place. LA metro drinks treated sewage from the cities of Las Vegas, Grand Junction, St. George, Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, and Laughlin.
