I think it would be tough to find any rod that could handle dropshot and spinnerbaits. Two totally different techniques. The 7'1" mhRB makes a nice spinnerbait rod. You want a soft tip for dropshot and the 6'10" might work ok but I think they make an R in a rod that size that would be a little more suited for dropshot

i have the 6'10MHF casting rod as my spinnerbait/buzzbait rod and it's awesome.  i don't think it can handle the lighter weight of the drop shot very well though.

I agree with this, those techniques are on opposite ends of the spectrum and I don't even see a compromise. You would basically have to find a rod to sling spinnerbaits and then use it for drop shot and just understand you are going to miss and lose fish as the rod will be a little overpowering not to mention that the fish are going to feel that rod and drop the bait before you hook them. If you get a rod that will work decent for drop shots, it will be very limiting on the size of spinnerbait you are going to use, I'd say somewhere around 1/4oz depending on the type of blades.

I bought that rod at the end of last year when it was too cold to do more than get out once with it to do a little casting.  The lure weight range intrigued me.  The tip is very slender.  I'm not sure if I'd be willing to try lures near its top end rating.  The wrap at the 2nd guide from the tip top guide is about 3 times longer than the other wraps, and immediately stiffens the rod tip flex.

Now that I have it, I don't know what would be the best use for this rod.  Sure would appreciate hearing from those of you who own the rod.  Guess I will ask in a separate thread.

OP, let me know if you find out any more information about this rod.  Thanks.

That casting rod has the solid graphite megatop tip. Be careful with it.

Big difference between Daiwas M and MH.

The rod has a solid section of graphite attached to the blank under that extra-large wrap you're noticing. The tip is extremely flexible but the joint can be fragile. TT did a review of the Steez Megatop casting rod and that's a good place to look (the Tatula is basically the same setup). I had one and got rid of it; the tip overloaded easily and made accurate casting a pain. If you drop " Tatula finesse rod " into Google, you'll find a lot of first hand reports on the rod.

Thanks.  I like my other Tatula rods, but this one is a totally different animal than I am use to.

EDIT:  Read the review.  Google supplied me with places to buy the rod, but not much else.  At least I know what to use the rod for now.  A bit disappointing as I like a little more versatility in my rods.  I read how good dropshotting can be but have never tried it.  Guess I will now.  :teeth:

yes, the TAT6101MXB has a solid graphite tip, just like the TAT6111MLXS spinning dropshot rod. it is extremely thin and flexible...and fragile. the tip on my TAT6111MLXS splintered on a hard cast...i sent it back to daiwa and asked them to replace it with another rod with a standard tip but they sent me a new one of the same rod. IMHO, it's fine for vertical dropshotting but that's about it. even so, there are better dropshot rods. i traded mine in during THUT's NRX trade-up promotion.

Well another case of not looking before leaping....on my part.

I did the same thing. There's nothing about the Megatop part on the Daiwa website. Someone said they like the rod for small Keitechs and such but most people have been in agreement with 21farms.

that makes three of us!

the solid tip is actually very interesting to use for dropshotting. you can literally see the tip dancing when you get a bite before feeling anything. by the way, i really do like tatula rods...daiwa did an excellent job with these.

Yeah I really liked the build and feel of mine other than the tip (it also ended up at THUT). I'll probably try the 7'4" H Frogging rod at some point this summer.

I actually didn't know about the solid tip.

The point is that from the reviews tatulas feel a bit stiffer than advertisef + the ex fast taper and the cw seemed to me a decent choiche for spinnerbaits.

I guess that i won't get any of these rods since in my country many tatulas aren't available... :(

I actually found the 610 mh, is it that better for spinnerbaits? I just don't want to get a rod too similar to my mossy back jwr

Yep, much better. Nice for other things, too.
