Shimano core...

Seriously, what application man? Spinning or casting, all around reek or flipping, topwater, cranking or ?????

I really think the STX is the best all around reel in th abu lineup, rocket for flipping and winch for cranks

I use tje STX 6.4 for jerkbaits and cranks. Greal reel and a loooong caster. The lews TP i have is VERY similar in performance as well and it should be since they are made by the same people lol

Depends on what you value most for your dollar. Are you looking for performance, durability, parts availability? I think the Revos are solid choices for all around comfort and performance. If you like simplicity, durability and parts availability, as Maximus said, the c series reels are the way to go. You can keep them going forever. Abu marked parts for life on those reels.

I wouldn't buy an Abu I've had them before and wouldn't buy them again.

The Brand reels I buy are shimano,Diawa's,&Lews.

Im guessing that you had used one of the bottom of the barrel abu reel. every brand has low quality reels.

To the OP I would say anu one of the revo's would be the best value. personally I like the STX the most.

I have four active Ambassadeur baitcasters. One is about 30 years old and still going strong. Love these reels. Currently running 2 Cardinal spinning reels too, with no problems. Great drags.

I wont buy another abu unless it was another gen 2

I had a couple gen 3 stx because i i liked my gen2 stx so much. Ended up sending the gen 3s back several times because after a few casts i had no drag or spool engagment. They were very early production models so im sure they fixed the issue.

I will say Abu has outstanding customer service

I have quite a few Abu spinning reels, not a bad one in the bunch.  1 soron 20, 2 40's (my most used beach reels) and 1 soron 60 used off shore.  Have a 172 that I upgraded to a soron, It's used for a sabiki and it's still very smooth.  Finally a 177 that caught back to back 150# sharks, lots of kingfish, bonita and barracuda, still very good but it's been upgraded as well, it's a guest reel now.

As posted above.

Abu Garcia 4600s is a great reel.

For the price, Abu Cardinals are hard to beat. 35-40 bucks for a reel that I would put up against any other spinning reel. Durable and great drag, don't know what else you need in a spinning reel.

That is a bummer that you got a dud. I would have to say that i have not had any issues with either of my 2 stx's so this winter i bought a premier, gen 3 winch, mgx, and an elite 8. All abu garcia reels except for my lews bb1 and tp.

I to have dealt with abu garcia cs and they are top notch. I had a guide insert fall out on a veritas and i got a 2.0 in return.

If you are looking to buy Abu garcia spinning reel then I think revo premier is one of the best. It is discontinued, but you can still buy it from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Abu-Garcia-180-Yards-Ball-Bearing-5-8/dp/B005GOU61I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428250558&sr=8-2&keywords=abu+garcia+revo+premier) or ebay. Definitely can hang with newer light reels like ci4+. There is a review on it too: http://best-spinningreels.com/abu-garcia-revo-premier-review/

The best Abu on the planet is the original Morrum, followed closely by the new Morrum, and then the EXT Pro. All round all built like tanks and can be handed down to the next generation. My uncle would say the old spinning 300 they made for Mitchell, the black ones out of production for about 40 years, he still fishes with his.

Looking for a low profile reel. Already own the Revo Sx. I'm looking to upgrade but I'm not sure if is worth the extra money.

I feel the stx is worth it.
