paleus Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Does anyone know of any spinning rods that break down small enough to back pack with that are actually decent rods? I have an UL ugly stick that would be small enough, but it is so whippy. Are there any "UL" sized rods that still have feel similar to a 6'6" M rod? I have a 2 piece Berkley Lightning 6'6" M that I would like to take on my next backpacking trip, but it is too long once broken down into 2 pieces. Quote
fishinphilly Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 right now cabelas has the fish eagle 50 travel rod 6'6 medium 4 piece on sale from $120 to $55 i would say thats a pretty good deal Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I have a 5'6 lightning rod UL that i use for backpacking and general trout fishing Not sure if they still make em that short anymore Edit: quick search on google found several 5'6 lightning rods Quote
paleus Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 That Eagle 50 looks nice. BPS has something similar: https://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Micro-Lite-Graphite-Pack-Spinning-Rod/product/10204877/?utm_referrer=direct%2Fnot%20provided&utm_referrer=direct%2Fnot%20provided Has anybody used either of these? They both have good reviews. I have a BPS local, hopefully they will have one in store I can handle before buying. Quote
fishinphilly Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 nope sorry never tried any of them but both cabelas and BPS have good warranties Quote
I.rar Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The Daiwa Ardito-TR is on my short list of travel rods. Some of our members have them and had nothing but good things to say. http://www.daiwa.com/rod/detail.aspx?id=751 Quote
paleus Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 The Ardito looks awesome, but a little expensive for a rod that won't get used very often. Quote
Poolshark Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I own a bps extreme travel rod and it is fine for what it is used for. There is also the browning travel safari rods for 79 I think that might suit your needs. Quote

ibobpeb Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Fenwick methods is like 4 rods in one. Wow I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Thanks for the suggestion! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 2, 2015 Super User Posted April 2, 2015 Fenwick methods is like 4 rods in one. They really thought that one out brilliantly. I love their concept on that. The interchangeability really plays to the "cover all bases" mentality that's even more important backpacking. Quote
paleus Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 I ended up getting a Browning Safari 6'6" ML. Seems pretty good just throwing a weight in the yard. Seems sensitive and stiff enough to fish some light T-rigs and bitsy jigs. That Eagle 50 may be better, but I just can't buy a rod without handling it first. Quote
