Morse643 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Hi im fairly new to posting to the forums so i hope im posting this in the right section of the forums. I was just wondering if anybody could offer me some advice on which rod and reel combo to get for the upcoming year. Im looking for something 250 dollars or under that will prove to be reliable and last me for many years to come. Also a large majority of my fishing is topwater using frogs and poppers so a medium heavy road combo would be preferable. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again though i would like it to be a rod and reel combo if possible. Thanks everybody and good luck. Quote
B-Dozer Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Bass Pro will be running their Spring sale ( might already be going on) their own line of combos are very good for the money. The Extreme series is a darn good bargain. at $250, you might consider 2 in different configurations . one fast, one slower for cranks or spinnerbaits you use most often 1 Quote
hatrix Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 For a reel you can't really beat a Diawa Tatula for the price. Then you have a extra $150 to drop on a rod of your choice. That all depends on what you plan to use or need it for. There are many good rods out there in that bracket. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 2, 2015 Super User Posted April 2, 2015 Do you want it to be a spinning rod or casting rod? The other problem is you want a combo, is there a reason you don't want to get a rod and then a reel? I'll be honest, most combos are made with either a low quality rod and/or reel and with $250 you can get a better set up than what you will with most combos. Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The search button is dirt cheap! Just make sure you use mustad hooks! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 2, 2015 Super User Posted April 2, 2015 Wow OP you lucked out. Go now and buy the 13 *** Black that ARV is selling in the flea market- it's a MH and the Envys are amazing rods even at full retail. I believe he has it up for $155 shipped which is a STEAL. I've considered it myself. Then go buy a Lew's LFS in a 6 gear. That is the best way I can think of to spend ~$250 on a do-everything casting combo in a MH. 1 Quote

The *** is a very very nice rod...especially for 155! Quote
Robert Riley Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Lew's Speed Spool on a Dobyns Champion, is a little over your price. Veritas rods are pretty good too. Quote

OP You should mention which type of reel you want to use. Most are going to be thinking baitcast....especially when you mention MH power. Quote
Poolshark Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The curado I / carbonlite combo starts at 249 on the bass pro shops website. That would be a killer combo for your price range. Quote
Kevin22 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Lews tourney and a $100 rod There are dozens of rods at that pricepoint. Mojo, veritas, ***, duckett ghost, and many others. Quote
LuckyGia Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Go with a Shimano curado or citica for a reliable trouble free reel. And I just found a company *** rods. I love them for the $ . Quote
