This is probably a novice question. I have limited experience with braid. I'm using Power Pro Slick 8 30 lb on a t rig rod, and love it. I'm also using Spiderwire Flouro Braid 40 lb on my bottom contact jig rod, but I'm not quite loving it. Maybe I just need to get used to the flouro braid, but it's loud and thick, in my opinion it handles like masonry string.

In my opinion the slick 8 is limper, quieter, casts better, and I just like it better. Is this the difference in 4 carrier and 8 carrier?

I want to rig up two spinning outfits with braid for general purpose plastics and one for shakyhead fishing. My gut says go with the slick 8 in 10 lb, but since I haven't tried P-line's XTCB or Suffix 832 I figured I'd ask. What would ya'll recommend?

Do I just need to get used to the loudness of some braid in favor of some benefit that I'm overlooking, such as less dig or sink rate? I'm using mono backing and a flouro leader.

Thanks

I wouldn't say it makes a huge difference, spiderwire isn't my favorite braid for that reason, Super Slick has a coating that makes it very smooth handling, one of my favorite spinning reel lines, I got a spool of Pline TCB braid. The cheaper one in the blue package, which is a 4 carrier and so far its fine, but time will tell how it is. 832 is a great braid, very smooth and soft, if I had to choose one for a spinning rod I'd go Power Pro or 832.

More likely its just the spiderwire..... usual 4 carrier braid like power pro original should be fine.

I've used both PP Slick and 832.  Moved to 832 as it seems to hold up a lot better. The 8 will always be quieter, but once you get any 4 strand broke in it all seems to fish the same.  Have regular 20lb PP on a few of my crankbait rod set ups and once it limps up and you get that waxy layer off the braid. Still use regular PP just not the Super Slick.  That Flouro braid I've never fished.  Have fished the Stealth Braid, but that's only in 10lb on my dropshot rods.

Great feed back, thanks. I think I'll pick up some of the 832 to try out.

The flourobraid and regular braid are two different lines all together to begin with. The flourobraid has different material woven in so it has the sinking properties instead of floating on the top of the water like PP, 832, Smackdown, Etc. I am sure the loudness from the flourobraid is just part of the lines construction. I have not used flourobraid so this is assumption.

4 carrier and 8 carrier do have different properties as well. The 8 carrier will (most cases) be smoother than 4 carrier because the the "braid" or Great

Great stuff I was about to post a question asking for general opinions about braid with coating and without.  I have Power Pro Slick 8 on a reel and I am thinking of trying the 832 for my spinning setup.

I have 20 some odd spinning reels spooled up with braid, 1 with PP slick and the rest 4 carriers.  With the exception of 1 reel all are quiet.  The noisy reel is quiet when no line comes thru the bail, under the bail it makes noise (the bail assembly and parts have recently been replaced), owning the identical reel using the identical braid it's quiet quiet, in my mind it's the reel.  Doesn't irritate me enough to replace the reel, still performs nicely. The PP slick is nice line.

I've always preferred the 4 strand Sufix performance braid. That is until I tried Seaguar Smackdown. I think the extra coating on the 8 strand is just to help with unraveling. Super slick 8 did nothing but unravel for me.

Well they didn't have the 832 in the right lb test for my spinning rod at dicks, which has really good prices on line right now. So I went with Power Pro 4 strand about to put it on now.

The issue is that are comparing apples to oranges. Have used spiderwire stealth braid and it performs verywell. That said i like that over powerpro but I like suffix 832 the most.

That's the breakdown I was looking for. Thanks!
