Super User everythingthatswims Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 I will be staying in Vero Beach next week with friends and family. I have never fished Florida so I will be doing a lot of learning I assume. Does anyone have spots to reccomend, techniques to try, and any tips in general? I plan on saltwater fishing for the most part so any bass fishing wil probably be in ponds if I stumble upon a couple, or canals if there are any in the area to fish. I think I will have access to a very strange converted sailboat of sorts that is now motor boat with a very small motor on it, this would be in the Indian River. Thanks guys Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 I've fished both inshore and the river with a guide several years ago, I believe Reinhardt was his name, owns a tackle shop up that way. The area around Ft Pierce is an excellent fishery, saw bait pods over a mile long and I/2 mile wide, caught 30-40# jacks and tarpon. Not far from Vero is the Sebastion inlet, just an outstanding place to fish. You can fish off the jetties, back by the river or the beach at both Sebastion and Ft Pierce inlet. Fishing a small boat in the river could be a lot fun. Quote
Shanes7614 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'd look for a guide to stick marsh/farm 13. Arguably the best trophy lake in Florida. Quote

If I had a way to fish stick marsh I might try it, but it wouldn't be with a guide. Just not my cup of tea. Mainly planning on saltwater fishing, that's why this is in the other species forum. Quote
Big C Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Use a 4" Berkely Gulp new penny shrimp, on a red or chart. jig head. Absolutely deadly for trout, flounder, reds and just about every other saltwater species. Experiment with some bass lures you don't really care about like buzzbaits, swimbaits, and spinner baits. Redfish and speckled trout are very similar to bass. Quote

Never caught much on the shrimp but if the "little fish" are abundant and chewing off the curly tails, I may have to use the shrimp. Quote
