Brnnoser6983 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have found a way to beat the bait monkey! So my brother, who has gone fishing with me a couple times came to me yesterday. He said you know I don't have any tackle, and we are set to go on an fishing outing this year.Wait for it...He than ask me to buy a tackle box and stock it!!!! You can imagine I started to scream like a giddy school girl. Spending someone elses money on tackle!?! Yes please! But it was truly fun to go to Gander and shop for tackle with him. He knows little about fishing or tackle. I think the best part about this upcoming trip will be to teach him. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 Tell him you need $300 and go to town!!! Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 I spent a little over $100 and he got stocked up. I didn't get things like swims and glides. Plus I was nice and have him some if my tackle. Quote
Arv Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I love shopping for friends that are new to fishing, especially when they want something used. Quote
Patrick Morrow Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I never shop for my friends. I have recommended them some lures, hooks, line but I think it`s better if they make the majority of decisions themselves when starting out, experimenting is a big part of fishing. Quote

He was with me looking at things and asking questions the whole time. I would point out a set of like 4 different spinners and told him to pick one. He would ask me what was better and why, and what are the perks. So it wasn't like I was blindly point out things and saying buying that. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 You're like a personal shopper. lol. My 1/2 brothers dad wanted help getting some hunting supplies on our way to a pheasant hunt. I was like 17 at the time. I said what do you need, gloves, license? He was like no. I don't have anything. I need everything including a shotgun. I told him two good shotguns, both very expensive. He said he didn't want to decide which one was better so he decided to get both. And then he basically loaded his cart with all the most expensive clothing. Must be nice being rich. lol. I've never forgetten that trip. Go on a trip. Buy everything you need on the way. lol. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 I'm getting my sister's boyfriend hooked up with fishing. Looking forward to it. No ulterior motives or anything - he only lives 2 minutes away from three private ponds. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 Think that was the fun part about when I worked in a tackle store. I helped other people spend their money. Did a great job of setting them up right they would come back every week for more. My boss would have rather me get the quick $100 out of them, I preferred to do it $50 at a time each week. Besides if you help someone pick the right things they come back over and over again instead of throwing everything in their basket and then them feeling like you took them for a sucker and never come back. Always good to get someone hooked on fishing and let them help adopt their own bait monkey. Quote
