Jim Hill Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 SO I finally ditched my tackle boxes for a new Plano 3600 softsider x. I don't carry a ton of stuff so the 3700 was too big. This was only $38 too! Anyway, I need to find some 3600 boxes that can hold spoons, not spinnerbaits, any one know of any or have any? I seen some that fit spinners but I have daredevles and such that I would like to fit, maybe the can in the spinner one? Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 You want something to hold the spoons individually like the spinnerbait ones do? Otherwise, why not use normal 3600 boxes? Quote
Jim Hill Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 exactly, individually like that. Because of the size of the treble hooks they get tangeled up real easy. I am not sure if there is a box made that would hold them or if they'd fit in the spinnerbait slots. The reason I don't just have one box with the dividers is because I'd only be able to fit like 5 or so in a box because of their length ya know? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 So do a bit of modifying and add some hook slots into the separators. That way you could hook each treble into a slot and keep them from tangling up. The lid would keep them from moving and coming out when closed. Just a thought. Quote

Biggest thing im worried about is the length with the hooks. How about hook covers? That could work also if I could find some. Never did think of covers for the hooks to keep them from getting tangled. But I wonder how bulky it may make them? Quote

Find the 3600's that have the dividers long ways across the box. Then in those 4 channels add your slots to the dividers. You can lay all your spoons one direction. The center divider will have the most since you will have to stagger the hook slots as so you can use all 4 sections. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 The easy solution seems to be to buy a bunch of those hook covers, which are around a dime apiece when you buy them by the gross. (Something like that, I bough a bunch of them several years ago and I've forgotten how much they cost) I'm pretty sure that you could go to work with a Dremel Moto-tool and a cutter bit and modify the dividers so that you could store spoons. A similar rule applies though, in that if you modify the dividers so that they'll hold spoons, a 3600 box only has so many dividers. You could fit more in a 3700 sized box, which fits better in a 3700 size bag, so maybe the 3700 size bag wasn't too big. Is it better to have the room and not need it or to need the room and not have it? How big are these spoons? Those big 5" or so structure spoons that've been popular the last few years? Might be time to re-think your storage. On a positive note - it is a first world problem that most likely can be solved by throwing money at it. Bottom line - I go with the hook protectors and see how they work first. BPS & Tackle Warehouse have hook protectors, other vendors probably do also. 1 Quote

The hook covers from BPS the less bulky ones aren't that bad. I have a lot of them on my treble hook baits. (Crankbaits, top water) Quote
Jim Hill Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 The 3700 bag itself was massive. I've got some back issues and such that would make the bag too much for me to carry. I almost always shore fish and have to walk a distance to get to the water so I wanted a lighter one. I still have plenty of space in the boxes, its just that the daredevles are so big! They are for northern pike mainly. I don't have musky sized ones but I've seen some great suggestions that i'll be looking into! Quote
Super User Scott F Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 Plano makes so many versions of the 3600 size box with several different ways the compartments can be sectioned off. Go to their web site and research, I'm sure you'll find one that suits your needs. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 How about getting some foam to put in the compartments and you could cut a few slots into the foam. That should hold the spoon and keep them untangled. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 31, 2015 Super User Posted March 31, 2015 I like the owner hook covers but they have bulk on the auction site. Use those and 3701 cases to maximise your storage. Quote
Jim Hill Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Just an update. I ended up getting a regular plano 3700 bag. My poor military disability wouldn't allow me to get one of those nifty 3700 elite series ones, they run like $80. I got a real tree one and it was like $35. Its not too much heavier thankfully and its not overly huge. Don't the 3700 boxes offer alot more customization? Not like the regular ones it comes with but ones you can buy online? Also I was looking for hook covers but I wanted to buy a cheap bag with many different sizes if they have em. Quote
