Im looking to purchase a new spinning rod something like a 6'6 med or med heavy rod fast action. My price range is around 100 to 150 maybe even 200 for the rod. i was thinking about the St Croix Avid or Avid X but i was wondering if there was a rod as good or better than the Avid for cheaper? ill be using the rod for bass fishing and striped bass fishing.

I like my st croix premiers. I've handled fenwick HMGs in stores too and they feel pretty nice too

If the rod will be doubling as a striper rod, I wouldn't consider a Med. power rod.  I'd also base my decision more on what types of presentations I'll be using it for most often.  If soft plastics are your answer, consider sensivity and the rod's ability to cast them unweighted. There are way too many rods in that price range, so it's going to be a personal decision. If there is a specific need for which you'll be getting this rod, address that need first, you'll eliminate a good percentage of that large variety.

The Avid's and Avid X's will be very solid performers. For what you're doing I'd be guessing a medium heavy would be good, but it really depends on what techniques you plan on using it for primarily.

Among other rods, I have 6'6" MF St Croix Premier that is a pretty versatile rod. Dunno that I'd use it for Stripers but I've thrown just about every type of 1/4 to 5/8 oz lure/bait with it and caught fish. It comes with me on just about every fishing trip I go on.

I have a 6'6 mf avid that's my favorite rod. Much better than the 7'3 mf ***. So much so that I now have ultra light through mh avids for this year. Probably most excited for the mlxf.

I'd look into the new loomis e6X as well. I would think the 783 or 843 sjr would meet what you are looking for

Look at Fenwicks. In your price range, you won't be disappointed.

This. The HMG series is great at $100, nothing touches the Elite Tech Bass rods in that price range.

There is a world of difference between a St. Croix Avid and a Premier - Avid hands down- period! You might also look at the latest Shimano Crucial - incredible new rod blank, my new favorite and I own almost everything including GLoomis NRX rods, GL2, GLX and TFO rods. Fenwick makes an excellent rod as well. Many friends weren't very thrilled with the Abu line.

Personally - an Avid or a Crucial would be my choice based on your budget.

If possible, try to buy your rods at fishing convention/shows and bargain with the vendors! Just last weekend I was able to get a St Croix Legend Elite for $180 and a Dobyns Champion rod for $140. All brand new with factory warranty! You could probably get the avid for $100. I never ever pay retail. Search on google and facebook for convention/shows near your area.
