Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 4, 2015 Super User Posted April 4, 2015 Ponds are still iced over today. But with the temps being more "normal" over the forecasted 7 days and rain occurring on most of them, I suspect open water will be available in the very near future. Hopefully early this coming week. I agree. I drove past my regular spots this afternoon. All were still solid except for Whitman's pond in Weymouth, having enough open water on its route 53 bridge to cast from. Didn't get any bites, but it was good to get the cobwebs off one of my baitcasters... Soon... Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I went ice fishing today. Still 13 inches of ice. Quote
LuckyGia Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Makes me happy that after last years winter in NY I came down to Florida and bought a house to escape the winter blues. I was back in NY for the month of February ( coldest month on record) Could not wait to get back down to Florida. Been killing the bass all month of March and still killing them now. Heading back to NY next Friday and am depressed just thinking about it. But I will say, NY gets high regards as my favorite state for fishing, just not ice fishing for me. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 Ice is off most the lakes here in wny now seen a guy monday on one of the local lakes hammering bass on square bills. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 Ice is finally leaving the ponds and lakes - slowly! And, of course, it snowed last night. Quote
aceman387 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Ice is finally leaving the ponds and lakes - slowly! And, of course, it snowed last night. I dropped my wife off at the airport yesterday. She is flying into Boston and staying with her daughter in Ipswich for two weeks. It sounds like she should have packed some winter clothes and boots...LoL. 1 Quote
Topwaterspook Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Everything is thawed here. Lots of rain and a southerly wind. It shouldn't be long before I catch my first of the year. The boat is out of storage. It needs prepped and I'm surely ready. I've got a chance to fish a farm pond once. I had no bites but am hopeful that I'll do better the next outing. I hope everything opens up for all of you folks soon so that we can get back to doing what we really live for. Tight lines, all. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 4 inches of snow here this morning. Still a bunch of ice in VT 18 inches or so. Back in Maine there is 13 inches of ice. Looks like spring arrives next week. Quote

Topwaterspook Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 I got a chance to slip down to a pond between the storms today. The water looked like thin chocolate milk. The wind was pretty stiff. I was throwing a 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbait with a gold Colorado blade. In an hour and a half I managed to catch three, only about a pound a piece but It felt really good. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 We did that a few years ago. I love it! Most years the ice hangs on until mid April anyway - Like this year. But on those Off years when we get a crazy early thaw, I can be on the water so much earlier - A-Jay Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 Metro Boston and south towards Cape Cod is pretty well open. As of Tuesday the only waters still too frozen to fish were Houghton's Pond (Milton, MA), Whitman's Pond (Weymouth, MA), and Jacob's Pond (Norwell/Hanover, MA). Little Pond & Billington Sea (Plymouth, MA) are both open. All waters I saw while driving from Foxboro, MA (95S) to Berlin, MA (495N) and back to Boston (90E) were open. Have fished less than an hour this year, without a bite. At least I got the rust off a couple of reels. Quote
wnybassman Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 'll be ready when it finally thaws out in June. Looks like the wind took care of it today, at least everything you can see on the web cam. Might be June before I hit the water though. lol Quote

Might be June before I hit the water though. lol I could put the boat in and drive from the launch to George's house, but most of the east side is still unusable. At least as of the drive-by I did 1/2 hour ago after I got out of work. I am shooting for sunday. Quote

So now we can fish until ice-in; which for me was Dec 14th last year. 2 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Finally 60, yes sixty degrees today. It's mud season for a while but not too bad. The turkeys are mating, the Jake's are in full bloom. The deer herd that's been here every night feeding has been gone the past few days. One big doe looked like a moose from the back end she must have twins. The does must be birthing by now. I guess they will be back hitting the corn with there babies. The does ate here when they were babies. In a week or so ill pull the corn till fall. Quote
Topwaterspook Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 I was up along the Allegheny River at Parker, PA today. There are still piles of ice jam along the shore. If the current slacks a little, I should be able to do some smallie fishing real soon. Quote
