Topwaterspook Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I figured that in another two days all the snow would finally be gone from my lawn. This morning I awoke to find the entire yard covered in another thin blanket. I'm surely getting tired of this! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 It's 18 in Erie right now. Lake is 33 degrees in Toledo OH & Erie PA. It's going to be a later ice out than last year. Quote
Smokinal Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I think this will be the latest ice-out I can ever remember. 1 Quote
lecisnith Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Last year there were still icebergs in northern Lake Michigan in July. I wasn't able to start fishing until late May. Where I am, at least, it is going to be warm much faster than it was last year. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I think this will be the latest ice-out I can ever remember. Last year was a later then usual ice out as well. My first day on the water was April 20th, the lake still had ice over a large portion of it. Probably be about the same this year. I am thinking though it will be a little bit earlier this year. Mainebass1984 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 ^^I hope you're right brother April 16th is my guess for ice out. Probably could launch in a couple rivers before then if they aren't to scary. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 Coating of snow here too. Very depressing. This winter won't end. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 Went to bed with 0 snow other then the piles from plows. Woke up and there is at least 3" on the ground and covering my truck. Either way my favorite river is opened up its a little high and looks like chocolate milk but I'm going Monday in the kayak I don't care if I'm wearing tons of layers I am getting out I need it. thomas15 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I checked my local lake, still ice 100% coverage. We received a few inches of snow today and the evening temps will be below freezing for the next few days. I put ice out at the earliest April 11, but probably will be closer to the 20th. Amazing. PatrickJr84 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I was looking at the forecast in my area, Akron, Pa. Saturday is showing snow again lol this is terrible. Last Saturday it snowed here too. I'd be happy with just a few days of 50's!!! Quote

Topwaterspook Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 Monday, I drove over the Youghiogheny Resevior. It was entirely thawed. Though there wasn't a single boat on the water. A tournament angler friend, told me that a buddy of his has already fished it twice. He's not gotten any bites yet. ................There's a tournament coming up on Raystown Lake next weekend; if I remember correctly. Everything up around my home is still frozen. Hang in there fellas. The thaw is coming. Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 It's been one hell of a winter that's for sure, but I feel like the seasons have just shifted a month. I was fishing well into December this past year thinking the water should have already been iced over. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 2, 2015 Super User Posted April 2, 2015 Still locked up with ice here...But ice or not, tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I am loading the boat up with the gear, putting the batteries back in and firing her up on the muffs. went to the DMV today and got the trailer reg. I'll be ready when it finally thaws out in June. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I will be going ice fishing this weekend Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The only time I ca bring myself to use "ice" and "fishing" in the same sentence is picking up a bag of Ice on my way to go fishing. 4 Quote
lecisnith Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The only time I ca bring myself to use "ice" and "fishing" in the same sentence is picking up a bag of Ice on my way to go fishing. The only time I've ever even thought about ice fishing is in the dead of winter when I haven't had a fish on line for two or three months. Still haven't been able to bring myself to get out there, however. Quote
grampa1114 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The last time I went Ice Fishing....I caught 200 lb........brought it home and the wife tried to cook it up.....we almost drown....... 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 2, 2015 Super User Posted April 2, 2015 There'll be open water soon enough, it just takes more patience (discipline to keep the 'monkey' away too). I drove to my closest fishing spots on Monday and can still walk across them. The longer the bass stay under the ice, the more aggressive they'll be when the sun finally hits them - at least that's the attitude I'm maintaining. Just keep thinking how good it'll feel to make that first cast.... soon enough.... Quote
desmobob Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I will be going ice fishing this weekend +1 But I'm also dropping my boat off at the marina for some work. She'll be ready to go by next weekend, just in case all the ice suddenly melts off the lakes around here! Tight lines, Bob Quote
Big Al23 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Are we ever going to get spring? I did see 62 degrees on my truck thermometer. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 3, 2015 Super User Posted April 3, 2015 Ponds are still iced over today. But with the temps being more "normal" over the forecasted 7 days and rain occurring on most of them, I suspect open water will be available in the very near future. Hopefully early this coming week. Quote
Smokinal Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Well we saw 60 and sunny today, with temps in the teens and snow for tomorrow. Not a surprise as far as how this winter/spring has gone. I anticipate my home lake open around the 18th which will put my first day out the 26th. Quote
