AboriginyGuru Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Looking for any insights or advice about the lakes. KDWP says they are the best lakes to fish at for bass, anyone? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Both are good. Lots of cat fishermen though. Butler is closer of course. And there are big fish there Quote
AboriginyGuru Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Know any better bass fishing in South Central Kansas? Quote
jrsmith_80 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Here is may take on both lakes. Mcpherson is quite a bit closer to me so I fish it more then Butler. Mcpherson is a very nice lake, however the road leading into the lake is gravel and isn't very pleasant to drag a boat down and its also a "no wake" lake. There is not a lot of structure to the bottom of the lake so for me it basically just a "beat the bank" lake. There are some nice fish in the lake, I've personally caught a bunch 2-4 pounders. For some reason last year the vegetation along the shore didn't grow like it normally does, which makes the fishing tough. Ive been there a couple time this year already and haven't had any luck what so ever, I'm hoping the vegetation comes back this year which should help the fishing quite a bit in my opinion. Butler is a nice lake as well. The one thing I really like about Butler in the lily pads, which probably aren't present this time of year. I have not been to Butler this year but in the past there has been a lot of vegetation along the shore which I enjoy fishing. There also seems to be quite a bit of structure out on the middle of the lake to fish. I also really like taking my boat up the inlet channel, its pretty shallow but still quite a bit of fun. Ive caught quite a few 2-4 pounders out of here as well. Hope this helps a little. Quote
ksboy Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Never been to McPherson but Butler is a great bass lake. In the spring it's a little tough because of all the shore fishermen on the lake. After the weather has been nice for a while and the guys fishing from the shore realize they'd rather be working on their cars or whatever and the pads get grown in, it will be really good. 1 Quote
AboriginyGuru Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Went to Butler yesterday and put 5 bass in my boat weighting a little over 9 lbs total. The lake is really low. I'm interested in fishing when all the vegetation grows back. Quote
