blackmax135 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Just curious how many gallons does your boat hold? How many miles have you traveled on a lake comfortably. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 54 gallons is the capacity of my boat gas tank. 60 miles one way in a tournament is probably the farthest I have gone at one setting. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 26 gal. Generally, less than 5 miles one way. Though I may end up 15-20 miles away from the launch. Must of the time it's less. The Pro Max will burn up 30 gal/hour at WOT. Quote

I have a 2 stroke 135 mercury and I think my boat will hold 24 gallons but I don't know because the label is faded and I have never had the gas low enough to fill it up to figure out how much it will hold. Just really trying to get a reference to go by to see how far I can travel in confidence Quote
lmoore Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 32 gallons. Typically don't run more than 15-20 one way. Mississippi River though, not a lake. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 Fill it all the way, run WOT for 15 minutes. Fill it back up and see how much you needed. Multiply by 4 for gal/hour. You can do the same test for tournament loads and speeds as well. 2 Quote
Rented Mule Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 My last boat held 24 gallons, and I often fished in some remote areas where you just couldn't pull into a marina & fill 'er up. I lived by the rule: a third of a tank to get to where you're going, a third of a tank to get back, and third of a tank for safety/ emergency. Quote
stfreed Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 2014 225 Pro xs 25" Fury on Ranger Z119 holds 37 gallons and I can make 120 mile run no worries. Double locking on the Ohio river can be tricky so I have tested my rig several times. At WOT I get 3.5 mpg and that is running loaded with a partner and getting 70-71 mph. On a long run I can run 55-60 mph and still make the lock and get 4.1 mpg that gives me about 140 mile range with a gallon or two to spare. :-) Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 My boat holds 52 gallon but the longest run I usually make is 40 miles round trip but that is not normal more like 20-25 round trip. I usually figure about 8-9 gallons per day and I try to fill up between 1/3 to 1/2 tank. 2 Quote

scyounggun Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 My Carolina skiff only holds 12 gallons but I average about 4-5 miles to the gallon. I rarely make long runs as I just put in in the area I want to fish. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 I don't tournament fish so I can pick the ramp I want to put in at so rarely have the need to make long runs. My boat holds 48 gallons but I've rarely had a reason to fill it up, and when I do, its for several days fishing, not to be burned up in one. If I keep my cruising speed at approx. 45 mph, mine burns eight gallons per hour the few times I have checked it. When scouting new areas, I will sometimes just cruise and since the lake I fish is 71,000 acres or 111 square miles, it's pretty each to travel long distances if your heart desires. I I just prefer to spend my money on tackle and my time fishing, instead of burning up gas. Since I don't like leaving gas in my tank, I just buy what I know I'm going to burn. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 Will no longer run on long trips. In most cases when fishing waters that have tournaments, you are actually running away from the fish that have been released at the ramp. 1 Quote
Thornback Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I never run my bass boat more than 3 to 4 miles one way. I prefer to fish rather than boat ride. I put in 2 gallons of gas at a time. The reason is because I never burn much gas and I want to keep fresh gas in the tank. But I also carry on-board one spare gallon of gas -- just in case. Quote
matuka Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Main tank holds 32 gallons. Two more side mounted tanks in the bilge hold, ten each. Or is it fifteen? These days I prefer to keep these empty. When full, they make the boat drag the backend too much. When I used to fish tournaments I could easily use the the bulk of the main tank. Quote
Krappiehog Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 91 bass cat pantera 2 w/200 V-pro .. 52 gal, 120 miles tops, and I would be on fumes. 180.00 to fill if I ran it hard on a tournament day. If not could squeeze 160 off both tanks. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted April 3, 2015 Super User Posted April 3, 2015 Mine holds 32. Most running I've ever done on Tournament day was 75 miles round trip. I used 13 gallons that day. Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Fill it all the way, run WOT for 15 minutes. Fill it back up and see how much you needed. Multiply by 4 for gal/hour. You can do the same test for tournament loads and speeds as well. An outboard will usually burn 10% of its rated horse power in fuel Per hour at WOT. For Example. a 150 HP outboard will burn 15 GPH at WOT. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 Or in the case of my motor, 25%, lol. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 My two modified Johnson's dino at 326hp and 318hp, the Evinrude is a stock 225 Ficht, and all three burn approx 22 gallons per hour at WOT The Johnsons are just pushing it 10 mph faster than the Rude, 83 vs 73 mph.. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 8, 2015 Super User Posted April 8, 2015 I'm exaggerating - my 2.5 gets around 23-24 gph. Quote
