Hello! I am fairly new at fishing on bass beds!

Okay i have some questions first

1: What kind of rigs should i use? Jigs, Carolina Rigs?

2: What kind of rod/reel/line should i use

3: When do they start to bed (im in southcarolina if that helps)

4: are they in deep water?

Thanks and God Bless- John Alan Thomas

Hello, I just got into fishing over a year ago. I'm still learning. Today, I went to a local park and used a blue and black rage rodent Texas riged. I caught a few bass over 4 lbs. I also used a buzz bait and caught several more bass close to the shoreline. I used cheap spinning rods and reals I purchased from Walmart. I have upgraded to 1 bait casting rod, but I'm still trying to figure it out. Good luck and hope my newbie input helps.

for spawning bass my favorite lure is a white lizard texas rigged either weightless or with a 1/4oz tungsten but i also use jigs, creature baits and pretty much anything i think they will bite, for anything under a 1/4oz ill use with 6-8lb fluro with a 6'6-7'0 medium rod and for a casting rod during the spawn ill use 7'0MH with 10lb fluro with open water and 14lb if I'm around lay downs, and for where to find them anywhere from 6in of water to about 8ft but since I'm a bank fisherman i look shallow.  get yourself a good pair of polarized glasses usually a green lens for during the spawn and the males will start to make beds, from my experience around 58-60 degree water temp

goodluck and i hope this helps

Hello! I am fairly new at fishing on bass beds!

Okay i have some questions first

1: What kind of rigs should i use? Jigs, Carolina Rigs? Drop shot.

2: What kind of rod/reel/line should i use...your choice.

3: When do they start to bed (im in southcarolina if that helps) when your see bass in shallow water about 3' deep.

4: are they in deep water? No, anywhere between 1 to 5 feet is about the average

Bass that are spawning do not eat anything, they gaurd the nest site from egg eating predators like crawdads, bluegill, minnows, carp etc.

A bass bed is usually in a protected cove from wind and next to something, but not always. The bed generally looks like a round clean area about 18" to 30" diameter, the bass sits next to it,. When you see the bass, it knows you are there and may swim off for a few minutes, then return. When the bass doesn't swim off the nest has egg or fry in it.

A drop shot rig with the 1/8-1/4 oz weight about 4" below the hook works good. White or chartreuse color grub or Gitzit type tube, nose hook with a size 1 drop shot hook works good. Just cast past the nest about 3'to 4' let the rig land on the bottom in the clean area and wait. Jiggle the tube slightly and watch for the strike, set the hook immediately. Bed fishing takes patients, polarized glasses, wide brim hat and quick reflexes.
