Catch 22 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I got some a few days ago on metal---but tomorrow will be different. I hate using blood worms but they work. Nasty messy little critters. Also have some night crawlers too in case the bloods get to me. A nice mess of whites will make a nice meal. C22 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 Whites can be a lot of fun! Our large reservoir here has some beauts, but they are hard to find at times. Quote
MassBass Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 lb for lb, they fight better than smallies. Quote
Catch 22 Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 No go today on the perch, high wind and rain all day.I went to a local pond and beat up on lots of pickerel, two nice 13" yellows and zero lmb.The pics were vicious and while trying release one ,it managed some revenge on me by breaking off a one point of treble in my hand.Oddly enough,it seemed like every nerve ending on the left side of my body was attached to that penetration point.OOwwiie First skunk on the bass at that location.Best bait was a ghost LC 78. I saw an eagle grab a fish off the surface only 50' away, just like the nature channel. Also I was watching some blue herons building a nest. They pick the very top of the highest pine trees and I swear they look like test dummies doing an organized crash. Its comical C22 Quote
Jtrout Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 there fun to catch and better to eat they taste really good battered and fried! Quote
powerduster Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I caught 21 on the 16th. They were all nice and fat and filled with roe. They looked like toads with their round bellies when I pulled them out of the water. I talked to the conservation officer and he was surprised I got so many. He sees me all the time, lol ( he covers a large area ). Quote
justafisherman Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 How do you go about cleaning and cooking them? We threw well over a couple hundred back last year while fishing for yellow perch. Quote
Catch 22 Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 I usually clean them as per this vid that shows bluegills. Sometime I will head, gut & scale them. Either way they normally get pan fried in butter. Or battered and deep fried. Very tasty critters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzsmNUvY1eU The wind will not let up so I can get on the river for the whites. Quote
