irishman775 Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Looking at these.... http://www.***.com/Pflueger_President_Spinning_Reel/descpage-PPR9.html#cust_reviews Which size should I go with for shaky head? Quote
Kevin22 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Shimano of your choice in 2500 size. All models are good IMO. Quote
Patrick Morrow Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 What size reel? You have to understand that reel sizes can differentiate quite a bit between different brands so we can´t give you one universal size. Shaky head reel should hold between 200 and 250 yards of 6- or 8-pound fishing line because long casts are required. So that can make picking the size easier whatever reel you end up choosing. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 What makes a difference is how the line manages on the reel, with mono or copoly some people prefer a bigger spool, with braid no. I'd be looking at both spool size and how a reel feels on my rod. Just about any brand reel now a days is smooth with good functioning drag to handle 5# fish in a freshwater environment, easily obtainable for $80. Quote
Alpha Male Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I have been looking at the same ones. I have come up with the shimano symetre, abu garcia orra S, and the pflueger president. all are in your price range if you look around the internet. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 Lots of good spinning reels under $80 out there. Just check the line test on each reel and select the one that feels comfortable to you. Bring your spinning rod to the store and ask the clerk if you can put some of the reels you are considering on your spinning rod to feel how the rod and reel interact. A size "2500" is what you need to consider. Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 28, 2015 Super User Posted March 28, 2015 Right now Cabelas has the Pflueger Supreme on sale for $69.99, it was $59.99 at one time but my advice would be to grab it now. Get the 8230 size, it is perfect for most finesse situations and it is going to be the best reel you are going to get in the $80 range. Quote
