Joedodge Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 So as most of you know I've been trying to trim down my bank fishing equipment to fighting weight! But I'm just one of those people who likes to be prepared and have options. Especially since I fish nasty ponds, canals, large lakes some clean and deep some heavy cover. And since I fish a lot after work I like to always have a pack ready to go and not have to load up different stuff. So got a new bag a lil bit smaller. Tactical back packs work well and can be had cheap. Plenty of pockets and good stitching. I dropped 2 pounds in changing bags alone. I'm condensed down to 2 Plano boxes. And then soft plastics bags. I combined colors of similar looks and bait type. By cutting them in half and mixing them. This lets me carry variety and ample supply. I'm carrying creatures and ribbon tail worms, stick baits, and some soft plastic swim baits. For terminal tackle I have plenty of hooks and sinkers light to punching weight, jigs, chatter baits, frogs in a couple sizes, several minnow type crank baits of size and color, and several colors of red eye shad rattle trap. And a few colors and size spinner baits and inline spinners, and a couple size top water poppers. I'm carrying pliers, a scale, and scissors. It's not for everyone as I have several rattle traps, spinners, and minnow cranks in each compartment. But condensed like this im basically prepared for anything anytime of day my local florida waters can throw at me. And I've condensed it down to 7-8 pounds and easily carry able. May be a pointless post but I hope it helps some of the newer guys who want to pack efficiently for bank fishing. Let me know if anyone wants anymore pics. 2 Quote

I need to separate out to just a bank fishing bag, so I don't have so much stuff. Looks like you have done a great job of not overloading your bag! Quote

I'm working hard to perfect a few techniques I like this year. Trying keep it light and effective. My biggest battle right now is color lol Quote
Heron Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 You can still lighten your load here, by not bringing all of those bags of plastics. When fishing from the bank, theres a fair chance youre not going to need them. At least not until youve established, which baits are working for you and which ones are not. Except for maybe the stick worms. Id bring that bag, If you can bear it, try just pre-rigging one or two items from those bags, and leave the bags at home. 1 Quote

I could cut down on my color selection of swim baits some. There's also a assorted plastics bag in there. Using a Plano box for plastics is something I've thought long and hard about. It would actually make life easier! Quote

primetime Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hey Joe, It looks like you have been the one buying all the Gambler Baits from the Local Dick's Sporting goods, I was in there the other night and they didn't have much left as I wanted to try some of the burner worms they have, but all they had were some ribbon tails. If you are walking a lake or pond, you can cut way back if it is easier by simply mixing colors into 1 or 2 bags and as long as you do not mix any chartreuse or Red shad, super oily baits they should not bleed. Also make sure any Elaztach baits like the ZMAN and Strike King Elaztach baits are kept in original packaging as they will stick to trays and melt other plastics. You have a good mix, I can tell you like throwing worms, which is good as it is rare to find a day when a soft bait or worm will not work, I like to use a back pack as well and I carry mostly terminal tackle and lures in the back pack along with the heavy stuff like pliers and water etc...I keep 2-3 bags of plastics in my pockets, and a little box of light jig heads and 1" grubs and crappie baits in case I am not sure if a pond is any good. A small 1-2" grub on a light jighead, or even a beetle spin is a good way to find out if you are wasting time, especially in some of the Ponds in this area. They look good, you see nests and wakes all over, but many times they are Tilapia, but that is why I would suggest some Tilapia colored plastics or jigs if you do not already have. Really anything with Smoke and blue or white and blue is a tilapia hue, I am sure you have seen them, they spawn all year long in some ponds and XCALIBUR makes a Tilapia colored Lipless crankbait I believe it is the XR25 which is a great search bait and DIck's has them for $3 right now. I would also invest in a few of the J-9 size Rapala Floating Minnows for spinning gear and I find all I need are the silver and black, gold and black, and maybe a firetiger pattern, but they will work great in any shallow pond....Good luck, your collection is growing and you can never have enough soft baits, jigs, or topwater lures, and crankbaits..... Yeah I'm the weird super patient guy who will throw plastics al day. Today I actually mixed colors and condensed bags lol. And I actually have some of the silver and gold and black rapala minnow lures I like them a lot. I do not have any tilapia colored baits. Only some smoke, and light light purple nd smoke stick baits. A couple of the large lakes near me have huge tilapia I. See spawning a lot! Quote
