Super User scaleface Posted March 26, 2015 Super User Posted March 26, 2015 Suffix Elite is real good too. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 26, 2015 Super User Posted March 26, 2015 X-2 and Trilene Big game more bang for your buck. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 I use big game I get the big spools and change my line a lot so for mono I use the cheap stuff but it works very well! Quote
Hogsticker Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 When I want the best, I use Sunline Defier. If I don't want the best, I use anything else. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 I love Sufix Elite, but I am currently trying Seaguar Senshi and I am really happy with it. Quote
bassinyea Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Seaguar senshi is really good monofilament. I use it for my topwater rod. Only thing to be aware of with this line is the diameter for each lb test is smaller than most other mono brands. I use the 20 pound senshi for topwaters and it is the same diameter as most other 14 lb mono brands. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Laugh if you want, but I am happy with my Cajun Red Cast. 2 Quote
McKinneyLonghorn Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Suffix Elite is real good too. I've been real impressed with Sufix Elite as well as their Siege line. I just picked up some Sufix ProMix to try out. Hopefully it is as good as their other lines. Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 Laugh if you want, but I am happy with my Cajun Red Cast. That Cajun Red Cast actually handles extremely well and is strong, the only problem I ever saw with it was the Red Cast has a little more stretch than I like but it does handle well and the abrasion resistance is good, great line in 6lb, 8lb, and 10lb tests. Silver Thread AN40 sounds like the line the OP will want to try, it has a controlled stretch meaning it will stretch but it only does so under steady pressure, similar to Big Game but it has a lower spool memory than Big Game, on a spinning reel I like it, on casting reels I like Big Game. This season I'm trying Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Mono, it is very thin, and very low stretch with supposedly good abrasion resistance but I haven't got out to use it yet. From spooling up my reels for next week I can tell you that knot strength seems to be very good, but this dry knot strength and it has average spool memory, a line with low stretch is going to be a little stiff but it isn't unmanageable so it has me hyped up ready to give it a go but so far it seems to be very good. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 27, 2015 Super User Posted March 27, 2015 Depends on what you mean by best, hate that term! If you are talking about castibilty, knot and abrasion strength at a low price then Berkely Big Game works. If you want a very smooth long casting small diameter line with good knot and abrasion strength and low stretch at a higher end price point; Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon is my choice. I use both, Big Game when cranking all day and change out the line after a few days and Deifer Nylon for my more expensive or valuable lures like swimbaits. 25 lb Defier is the same diameter as 15 lb Big Game for example. MichiganBass80 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Berkley XT and Bass Pro Excel are my choices for mono. Quote

The thing that turned me away from cajun red a few years ago was the stretch. Stretchiest line I have ever used. Also, it was the only line I ever used that snapped when i really went to sling a crankbait really hard. Happened 3 or 4 times and the lure went flying out 100 yards once line snapped. Took all of it off my reels after that and never considered it again. Big Game is strong line with good abrasion resistance, just has a little more memory but is no problem for baitcaster. Sufix elite is decent but has a lot of stretch. The siege is good but has more memory, similar to big game. The sunline mentioned above and the senshi I believe are definitely the best quality mono you can buy. Quote
primetime Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Trilene Big Game, XT or XL depending on what is most important, but for diameter and overall performance I am impressed with the Suffix line of mono when it comes to strength and diameter. Stren Original is a good line as well, but Trilene BIg Game is my favorite since it is usually sold super cheap at a local shop so I stock up on it, another great line that is awesome if you can find it is Triple Fish Rx Copoly, the 20 lb has 14lb trilene xl diameter....
