Prescription Sunglasses For Fishing

I searched the old threads and found a number discussing non-prescription glasses, but not much info for those of us wearing RX lenses.  I use Oakley Flak Jackets and Half Jackets with prescription polarized lenses today.  Is there a particular brand or lens color/lens treatment that you've found works best?  I've got a pretty significant vision allowance to use up this year, so I don't mind spending some bucks for good stuff.

I also have Half Jackets, but just ordered a pair of Costa Jose prescriptions with the 580G lenses.  I'm old school and prefer glass lenses.  Can't wait as I'll be using them mostly for driving.  You should check with your eye Dr.  Most can order lenses to fit whatever frame you choose and that includes polarized.

I don't know the brand, but I have a set of tinted and polarized prescriptions. They work great at cutting glare, but don't do a darn thing to help see through the water (that isn't right under your nose)

I think doing both was an over kill. But myself have been looking into just using glasses with a polarized clip on that's in Amber.

I'm looking into buying Cocoons fit over polarized sun glasses.They fit over your regular glasses.Cabelar's sells them for $49.99.I can get them local for $55.00,and get to see how they fit.

That's sort of the complaint that I have with the Oakley glasses I have.  Great at protecting my eyes, great at cutting glare, but I've been with other guys fishing who say "look at that fish" or "look at that stump" and I can't.  Bear in mind the irony that they are rolling with $50 non-prescription glasses and I've got $400 Oakleys when this is happening.  Seems there's got to be a better prescription-based solution out there.

Sounds familiar. My brother in law has a set of $20 spider wire glasses and tells me all the time to look at something. And I can't see it. $400 prescription sunglasses, horrible for fishing, great for driving.

I bought my prescription polarized, uv and coated sunglasses at Costco - No other place came even near their price.

I just picked up the Cocoon Style Line MX in the Ink color frames. The lenses on mine are the Green Mirror.  Oddly, the website shows that the Green Mirror is only available in the black frames though.  So far they are really comfortable.

If you have good sun glasses and can't see what others see try tipping your head to the side.  Sometimes shifting the polarization a bit helps.  However, I think the problem is more than just tipping your head.  You are wearing prescription glasses because you have a vision problem.  I have never been able to see well at distance and seeing objects colored the same as the background is hard, really hard for me to see.  The prescription helps you see but some people can just see everything and glasses are not going to make much difference to you.  Just accept the fact you can't see as well as some other people.

I agree about the tipping, just like rotating a polarized filter on a camera lens, a slight movement changes what the lens sees.

Fishing pre dawn and into the daytime flip ups on my prescription glasses work well for me.  At times I see better without polarization depending on the angle of the sun, or if I'm facing or have my back to it.  I prefer to flip up the lenses when tying a knot.  For everyday bank and inshore fishing I wear solar shields and off shore I use cocoons.

As for color, go with the copper, bronzy color.  It's the closest thing you can get to the color enhancing lenses available for cameras.  Not only do they make the colors bolder, they also enhance contrast.

Yes they do, and very comfortably.  I am very happy with my purchase.

The color of the lens depends on the type of light and brightness you are using the sunglasses in.

Amber/copper tends to be good in low light or overcast days. For bright overhead sun dark grey works best for me overall. I use both in prescription glasses. All I wear is polarized sunglasses. The frame must fit properly. So order from your eye dr.

I just picked up my Oakley Gas Cans with my new prescription. Previously I had the Black Iridium lenses which I was not impressed with on the water. I went with the Deep Blue lenses this time because they're supposedly made for water applications. I guess I'll find out as soon as we get some soft water around here.

Got my prescription, polarized, amber (brown) sun glasses at Wal-Mart vision center.  The brand name of the glasses is Coppertone.  They work good for me.

Just got duckett sunglasses. Yes they make sunglasses too lol. And they are great. Got the green mossback lenses. They are everything and more. Only 119. I would recommend a try
