I'm getting 4 new casting combos and I'm torn between the tatula and bb1 pro. Either reel I decide on will be sitting on Dobyns champion series rods. Can anyone that's used both give me some insight on the pros and cons of each? Does it come down to just personal preference? Should I go with 2 of each? Thanks

Get the lews. I have a bb1 and a tournament pro and they are great reels. I didnt care for the tatula i owned. Every other reel i have has 3 bearing on the spool shaft but the tatula only has 2. there wasnt one between the pinion and the spool. Does that mean its trash? No, just seems less refined to me for the price of it.

I have no experience with the bb1 pro, looks like a nice reel. I have a tournament mg, bb1, superduty, And a speed spool ss1. They are all good reels and get the job done just fine.

I also have a tatula. I like the lews, but for the price you can get the tatula, it's by far the best feel in the price range.(search Amazon and various tackle stores)

Just my opinion. If I wouldve had my tatula and realized how good of a reel it is for the price, I'd probably have 3 more of them at least.

Bb1 pro. Tatula is too bulky and heavy. Bb1 pro feels like a feather compared to it. Some people love the tatula but I hate it. My opinion is the lews bb1 pro and im not an all lews guy. I'm a Shimano guy

I have had the Radula for a year and I just gotten the bb1. Both great reels. My longest cast ever have come on the Tatula not to say the bb1 couldn't I have only been out once with it. I was pitching with the bb1 and I could then make a long cast with it without tightening the tension. Never any kind of backlash. Impressive. Tackle tour does a good review on them both but that is as indecisive as me.

I'm trying to decide if I should get a bb1 too. I already have a Tatula but everyone says to get the lews. I wanna try every reel there is and then decide which one I like the best and then switch to just that kind. I never thought deciding on rods reels and tackle would be so difficult. Fishing is the most addicting thing I've ever done. And I smoke. haha

I have both of those reels and they are both great reel's. I had wondered the same thing and wanted to know which was better. I took them and spooled 12# fluorocarbon on both and mounbted them nt my pair of 7'1 medium heavy White ice rods.

The Tatula weight a little more than the BB1 Pro, the tatula is 7.9 while the bb1 pro is 6.5, while their on the rod you reallt can't tell much weight difference though. The one thing you can tell is that the BB1 Pro will palm better than the Tatula, so if that is important the BB1 Pro wins on that.  On casting with the same line and same rod and same cast plug, The Tatula would out cast the BB1 Pro by around 8 yards. Not much but it did win every time.

On pitching the Tatula shined again, it took much less effert to pitch with the tatula that it did with the BB1 Pro and I believe that is where the TWS comes in at. Reeling baits back in the tatula won again as it was much smoother than the BB1 Pro was, it felt more connected, while the BB1 pro felt a little hollow.  The drag system was pretty close too, the BB1 pro is rated at 14# while the Tatula is rated at 13.2#, Both drags were butter smooth. The BB1 Pro has a 95mm handle while the tautla has a 90mm handle also. The Tatula has a aluminum frame and side plates while the BB1 pro has an aluminum frame and Graphite Side Plates.

The Daiwa Tatula can be bought for a lot less money also.

I feel that after all of my testing and the things I did, that the Daiwa Tatula was the winner and the better reel. It is the one I would buy.

Thanks for the replys. Now what about the tournament pro? I'm fairly new to baitcasters, while I know how to cast I still get backlash every once in a while. Will I fare better with the dual brake system of the tournament pro? Or will the centrifugal brakes of the bb1 pro and tatula be better?

BB1 pro is just a BB1 with external brake settings, pretty sure that's the only difference.

OP--If you are bombcasting or cranking, get the BB1. If you are doing anything else, TP is where it's at. I also have extensive knowledge on dobyns and lews if you have further questions.

Take a look at the cabelas arachnid if you're leaning to Tatula. I have most of the reels mentioned. Each has a specific use for me. My favorites now are Tatula R, Arachnid and Lews Lite.

But I use heavy line 20-25 Flouro and 15 lb Flouro on the Lew's Lite. Your experience may be different.

id get the tatula over the tp anyday. i bought the tp after reading how great it was but after using it kept wondering what all the fuss was about. just felt cheap to me. even the lews emblem was peeling off. almost sold the tatula becuz its pretty big and i hav small hands but ive gotten used to it. great reel for the price

I have two Tatulas and two Tournament Pros.  They have a completely different feel, for sure... the Tatulas feel heavy, solid and a tiny bit bulky, while the TPs feel light and sleek.  They both have excellent braking systems and are great casters.  The actual weight difference between the two isn't much, but it feels like a lot.

I really love both these reels.   The difference in the weights allows you to do some nice balance tuning with your favorite rods.  I'd say, get two of each!  The Tatula is an absolute steal, in my opinion.

Tight lines,

Bob

I have a tatula and a lews tp, and I really like the tatula better. The lews is a very nice reel, but there's just something about that tatula that I love. I'm actually thinking about getting rid of a couple reels so I can replace them with tatulas. I have bought reels from all the big manufacturers now and so far my top 3 are daiwa, lews, and quantum in that order.

I think I'm gonna go with a tournament pro, a bb1, and 2 tatulas, or maybe one tatula and one tatula R. In getting the tatulas for $130 so I can't really go wrong as from what I'm hearing they're well worth the $200. Thanks everyone!
