Any Nanofil Fans?

Recently purchased some 12 pound Nanofil for my dropshot/vertical jigging walleye rod, got to use it for a day on some walleye with a 10 pound fluoro leader, so far I'm impressed, very sensitive line, however, Im worried about durability issues, for $20 its pretty pricy and would like it to last.

FWIW ... I tried this line twice.  Once when it 1st came out and the second this past year just in case my original purchase was a fluke.  It does cast like a dream but seems to fray way to easy for me.  It also doesn't seem to hold a leader as well as other lines.

 

I currently am testing out PowerPro SuperSlick and Seaguar Smackdown.  Love both.

Simple answer, no. Tried most of the pound tests in this line and all of them failed miserably when it came to knot strength. I've been around awhile and I know how to tie knots too. Good luck to you if you pursue using this line. There are better options out there, in my opinion anyway.

I used to use it. I still have some 4lb on an ultralight and it works well but does fray easily. The bigger you go though, the more crappy it becomes. The 17lb is like big stupid plastic cable. Super clunky and not supple at all. I don't think I'd even consider it over 6lb to be honest.

Any knot besides double palomar won't work either fwiw. It's a bit slippery.

Hate it. Tried it for bass and walleye in 10#. Sufix 832 is 50 times better of a line for a couple bucks more.

^^ This ^^ - used it almost exclusively for about 1.5 years. Throws like a dream and was very sensitive. Also loved the newer chartreuse color they came out with, but in the end, its weakness (knot strength) simply overshadowed its strengths for me.

Well, hmm.. Don't despair, use it up and decide for yourself, but all indications seem to suggest a inferior line type.

Ha! I actually had a great experience with it...casts forever and sensitive. Always ran a leader with it and as long as you tie your knots carefully it was fine.

I'll kee it on for now. A little worried. Haven't had knot problems yet. I'll probably end up going back to 832 eventually.

I hope it works out for you. I looked at it briefly but it seemed that the negatives were too many for me. Its thicker than braid per rated strength, its not clear like mono or fluoro, and its meant for spinning gear. I feel there are better options.

it's on a spinning reel, I purchased some power pro tonight, if I get broke off or knot strength goes bad I can switch back to some old reliable braid.

I can't believe there is enough demand for that line for Berkley to keep making it. It sounds like a spool full of expensive trouble.

I wanted to , but seemed for the price power pro was a better option.. So I ever did. I am using fire line for my crappie fishing this year. Just spoled up so we will see how it works

I very much disagree, the knot I tie(version of a uni knot) works much better and holds past rated strength. I have not had a slippage occur since I tried this knot. Ive used 6# for a few years now and I get little over 9# strength on my line still. The dbl palomar I only got about 7#. Im down to only 100' and throwing out the connection knot so its time for more. It has a home on my best rod cause it is very sensitive line, braid feels a bit numb when going back to it. It is not a braid and its not underrated on strength like most braid. Its more of a finesse line and when use as such it works very well. 

It was used to catch my PB and I had to redirect the bass a few times away from a metal covert and a fish crib the knot/line held. I did retie afterwards though.

Agreed. I even skipped docks with it and fought fish around dock post without too much fraying (any line is going to fray in that situation). It's a tremendous line in open water. You do have to tie your leader knots carefully. For some reason I found that if I cinch down the Nanofil first it seems like my knots hold better. Try it for yourself and form your own opinion. It isn't a line for everything, but the things it does well it excels at.

I tie an odd connection knot, I tie a sturgeon loop knot on my fluoro, then tie a clinch knot to the loop and pull them tight, not sure anyone else does this but i've done this for the last 2 years not one break off, held up to king salmon too.

I've been using it for a couple of years and really like it, especially the bright green. I read on another site ( don't remember which or I'd post a link ) that one of the Berkley guys said he always puts a few extra wraps on a knot with Nanofil. I've been doing that and haven't had any slippage ( I use the Alberto knot ). My line has frayed too, but no break-offs.

I prefer it for float n fly - I use 10# - it does fray but with a 10' leader that's no problem - I do a bimini then an alberto to the leader - it outcasts my other rig with braid and has far fewer wind knots. Not an all purpose line but it casts like a dream and is very sensitive.
