I'm Screwed - Can't Put Back E-Clip Onto Worm Shaft - Please Help Before I Kill Myself

I own a Curado 201E7. I can't put the E clip back in! It was so easy to take out but it's the opposite putting it back. I have been using a screw to put pressure on it but it wouldn't budge and then it bent out of position so now, the clip won't lock and is useless

I can't sleep - that's how stressed I am about this whole situation. Please help me. I have a Citica E, I want to take that E clip and put it in the Curado and order a new clip from Shimano for the Citica. However, at this point, unless I know I can put it back in without damaging it further...I just don't know what to do anymore...

Isn't there a "bantam" Shimano guy that frequents these forums? It will be embarassing if I have to bring my reel in to Thorne Bros shop in April when the Shimano reps visit to host the annual fishing sale and have them help me out.

get the E-clip situated and use a small flathead screwdriver. DO NOT use the flathead as a straight down like you would for a screw, instead use the flat SIDE of the blade so that the handle is pointing away from the reel. using gentle force to hold the clip in place with the hand holding the screwdriver now use your other thumb as a fulcrum and exert the force with the hand holding the screwdriver handle. This works with ease.

Ambition is to be admired, but for those with fists of ham, knowing your limits is valuable! If you are certain the parts are assembled correctly then the clip should go in easily as described in the previous post. I suspect something isn't seated quite right if you're having massive difficulty getting the clip back in.

Bantam 1 (Dan Thorburn) is who you are talking about and he is going on to a different position with Shimano and he will not be frequenting the forums like he used to.

All good points above. And I agree that it sounds as if something just isn't seated properly. Take a look at the schematics eddieg posted above and be sure everything is where it should be. Might not hurt to take the Citica apart to have an assembled visual that you can compare it too before installing a new part or swapping parts.

I put a little grease on it to keep it in place before I squeeze it on with bent needle nose hobby pliers.  the grease will also prevent it flying out.  Good points on getting your worm gear seated in all the way before you begin.  Just be sure the groove is clearly visibile before you begin.  They can drive you nuts though just when you believe you have everything lined up OK.  You really have to keep a finger pushing on the worm gear the whole time  to keep it in.
