New Deck

I have an old 2002 Tracker Pro V 16 that needs a new deck in the back. Old deck was rotted pretty bad so I removed it at the end of last season and cut a template with some old ply that I had lying around.

 

I am posting because I really don't know exactly what to look for when I buy a new sheet of wood for the deck. I do know that pressure treated is a no go on an aluminum boat, but past that I really don't know what to buy. I can get marine grade ply at my local menards but I don't really understand the different ratings listed for lumber. Any help would be great.

 

Also, can anyone recommend a good place to buy carpet.

The stiffer the better. I'd go with half inch. Also use stainless screws they're not cheap.

Try ebay for boat carpet. Again heavier is better. I'd probably buy at least 20oz.

Baltic Birch plywood.  An acceptable alternative to the expensive marine grade plywood.

 

The only downside is that it comes in 5' by 5' panels.

Baltic birch is fantastic wood. It's what you'll find in a good cabinet shop. Like stated above it traditionally comes in 5x5 sheets. It's not cheap. You can find 4x8 sheets, but it can be extremely expensive. Baltic bird is comprised of basically nothing but void free wood and the adhesive between each layer. It's really great stuff.

X2 it's more expensive but you'll never have to redo it.

I plan on replacing the boat once I get done with school, so about 2-3 years. I cant justify the extra expense considering I don't plan on keeping it.
