bassinyea Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 This is nothing special and many others might have done this before but wanted to share with you guys n gals a rig that has been working really well for me so far this year. It is basically a finesse carolina rig. I am using 15 lb fluoro on a 7 ft mh rod. I slide a tungsten bullet weight on the line first, usually 3/8 or 1/2 oz size. I then put on two 6th sense peg x bobber stops back to back. You could probably get away with just one but I put two just to make sure it doesnt move from where I set it. The 6th sense ones are the best I have found, they are bigger than the bass pro bobber stops and have more surface area to create friction with your line which makes them hold much better and not slip. I do not use a glass bead on this rig. I then tie on my hook and whatever plastic I feel like fishing which lately has been a green pumpkin lizard. The nice thing about this rig is that you can move the bobber stops up or down your line so you can adjust your leader length whenever you feel like. I also have noticed that by eliminating the swivel in a traditional carolina rig setup that I get better sensitivity as your line is directly connected to your hook. I have been fishing around shallow secondary points and even back into some spawning coves with this. If I am fishing water 5 ft or less I usually start out with about a 12-15 inch leader and when I back up off of some points and fish 5-10 ft. of water have been using 18 to 24 inch leader. Like I said nothing special and I am sure it has probably been thought about or done many times in the past but just wanted to share. I have also seen this presentation work well during the spawn. Everybody during the spawn around here fishes texas rigs and fishing a carolina rig like this gives the fish a different look than what they are used to seeing. If anybody else has some non traditional rigs or tips that work for you please share. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Have you tried using the bobber stops on heavier rigs? I use a 3/4 ounce weight most of the time and would love to have an adjustable leader length . Are the sixth sense pegs better than the pegs I get at wal mart ? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Look up Mojo rig and split shot rig. There's your finesse Carolina Rig. Probably the only different thing I do is a jika rig for punching. I make them an ounce and up for punching. Quote

Yes they hold much better than the ones you get at wal mart. I havent tried it with a heavier rig yet but feeling how tight two of them fit on the line i would think it would work fine up to 3/4 oz. 3/4 oz is what I use 90% of the time during summer time fishing deep points and ledges. The bigger lb test you use too helps with keeping the stops in place. I wouldnt go any lighter than 15 lb and I use 17lb fluoro a lot too. As far as split shots I have used a split shot rig before but dont anymore. Just cant get over the paranoia of crimping something to my line like that. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Lol, I put around 20 AA, BB, AB sized on my shot line for steelhead that weigh a lot more than bass. Line is rarely more than 8#. It's not going to hurt the 10-20# line we use for bass. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Since learning about the Mojo-Rig from Glenn I have one tied on almost every time I go fish. I use it to cover grass like his video describes. I also use it in open flat areas when in less than 10 FOW. I even experimented with swimming a keitech behind it. Just flat out works for everything except close target situations BUT if I could find a way to flip it I probably would too. LOL Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Look up," slip" shot rig, not split shot, , been fishing a variation of this rig about 35 years. I found the mojo style pro Jo tubular weight far superior to bullet weight for this type of rigging. A Peg-it rubber peg with a glass faceted bead is also adjustable and works on line to 4 lb to 20 lb. you can also use a Karolina Keeper as a weight stopper. The hook I recommend is Owner # 5133 Tom Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I've found that a bobber stop behind a Carolina Keeper keeps it from sliding down when using heavy weights. Your 'system' is a great alternative to crimping a split shot on your line when rigging. A split shot rig. Quote
