That's when I get the most bites. This is my favorite way of fishing them. As John said, any way you would throw a spinnerbait works for a chatterbait. It is a big fish bait this time of year for me. You will lose a few in wood, but an occasional pig will ease the pain. Quote

bassinyea Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I love fishing a chatterbait this time of year but where I fish in the spring the fish get real tight up in the bushes and around shallow wood cover. Chatterbaits for me are a wood magnet. Any time I try to fish them tight to cover they get hung on everything, its like they are magnetically drawn to the tree branch. I know you can do a few things to make them weedless but for some reason i dont like to fish them like that. Quote

I used the swinging football head mold and an Owner Twistlock XXX hook so I could rig my trailer up weedless and fish a bladed jig through standing timber without hanging up constantly. I used the swinging football head mold and an Owner Twistlock XXX hook so I could rig my trailer up weedless and fish a bladed jig through standing timber without hanging up constantly. I bought some of the revenge viberators last year and they come with a spring clip that attaches to the eye of the bait which allows you to rig your trailer weedless. Whenever I fish heavy cover I have strictly started fishing these. Your homemade jigs look nice, always increases satisfaction of catching fish with something that you made or modified yourself. I've never had problems with them and I've never heard anyone switching them out either. The style of they're snap doesn't have a high stress point it's strong in design. So as long as your not setting the hook on a cinder block buried in the mudd and your swinging for the fences I think you'll be good with any fish lol Quote
