fishinphilly Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 If you buy a reel from amazon, will it still be under warranty from the company or no? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 23, 2015 Super User Posted March 23, 2015 Warranties are generally via manufacturer. Some do have stipulations that they be bought from a certified dealer and require a receipt for any warranty work but i have not personally seen a company ask for a receipt. Most companies also allow for the product to be registered which gets it into their system under your name. 1 Quote

RSM789 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 There is a market of unauthorized dealers in every industry that often uses sites like Amazon to sell products. The concern is that the products they sell are refurbished, stolen or knockoffs of what they advertise. Manufacturers hate losing control of their supply network, what ends up happening is lower perceived value for their brand & products. Their only recourse is to invalidate any warranty of a product of theirs sold by an unauthorized dealer. This strategy is effective on higher priced products with expectations of lasting for many years. Call the manufacturer, they will tell you whether the particular dealer on Amazon is authorized by them. Quote

Whether XYZ reel company backs up that warranty may be on a case to case basis. I did have a situation of getting a defective rod, Amazon stood right behind it and over nighted me a new one. I purchased a reel off Ebay, several months later I sent it into Pure Fishing under warranty, no problem at all. Quote
