Wats up guys I'm new on this website and to fishing in general, I wanted to start fishing with the drop shot and just wanted to ask if this a good rod to start off with for drop shot fishing or are there better models in the same price range?

I also like the phenix rod any feedback on that brand?

Thanks

Depends a lot on your budget, but any good quality 6'6" - 7' medium-light action rod will get the job done.

I haven't used that model of Mojo Bass, but I have a Legend Tournament in the same power and action and it's absolutely perfect for drop shotting! I wouldn't hesitate on the rod you're looking at!

That model St Croix is the dedicated Drop Shot model, so it will work just fine. It's all in the eye of the beholder anyhow. I drop shot 95% of the time and ive owned and used the Mojo rod and it was fine. I bought a $35 Daiwa Laguna rod that is so comfortable and the right action that I end up using that a lot of the time. I have also owned in the past 1 G Loomis DS rod and I didn't care for it at all, sold it on Ebay.

I drop shot with a medium action 7ft. Duckett Ghost and it performs flawlessly. and for 100 bucks you cant beat the quality that comes with.

In my opinion spinning rods between the 50-100 range, any will be fine for drop shot.  You just need to find out if you want to buy something that just works or pay more because of how it fishes.  For some reason I don't see to much of a difference (sensitivity wise) with this technique.  My most expensive DS and main rod is a Crucial and it rocks.  I've used cheaper rods and didn't feel like I was missing fish.  I think dropshot is one of those techniques that I don't have a problem for bite detection.  Of course using braid helps immensely.  If I fish Texas rigs, jigs etc...I think that a more sensitive rod helps these techniques more.

The St croix mojo is a great rod for that price it comes with a 5 year warranty. St croix customer service is superb.

I agree with all of the guys saying St. Croix. The quality is awesome.

For drop shotting I actually use a rod that was gifted to me by my dad, its a 7'6" medium/moderate spinning rod that was custom built for a guy who fishes for speckled trout. Barely used, then sold at auction. Its not a traditional drop shot rod, but it works really well for me. The length is great for setting hook and keeping that fish pinned, but it has a super moderate action and bends all the way to the handle almost. The reason i like it so much is that it gives the fish alot of forgiveness. I seldom lose fish on it. Just find something that works for you and how you prefer to leverage a fish! Even if its a speckled trout rod! haha

That mlxf and the legend 69mlxf are nice rods! Perfect action for drop shot IMO.

If you are using flouro then an xfast is great. I used a lamiglas excel 702 that was great and now using a Fenwick elite bass 610 mlxf and I like that rod better. Both of mine doubled as trout rods and they work great. I also have a dobyns champ 702 but I like the Fenwick more.

I use a bass pro shops carbonlite and I absolutely love it. It's very light and sensitive and at a good price. Definitely worth a gander imo.
