SteveBass Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I live in Connecticut where we have our own fair share of small mouth. My Question is Even if we don't have gobies as a forage can I still you a gobie for bait in Connecticut? Any help will be appeciated!! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 22, 2015 Super User Posted March 22, 2015 You might not have gobies but could have sculpins which look almost the same. Go ahead and give them a try. 1 Quote
Zach Nute Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 You can use them, you shouldn't have an issue. I live in CT aswell.. What part of the state do you live in? Also what I really find to work are hellgrammites... Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 23, 2015 Super User Posted March 23, 2015 Tubes are sort of like gobies fished in a similar fashion and smallmouth love those. So, there is no reason why a goby imitation would not work. Smallmouth are very curious and extremely opportunistic. I think they'll work just fine. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted March 24, 2015 Super User Posted March 24, 2015 Absolutely. A bass is only going to mistake a lure for a goby if it knows and expects gobies. And if a bass expects gobies, lots of lures close to the size, shape, and location of gobies will work. Same is true for crayfish, darters, sculpins, dragonfly larvae, baby perch, ... etc ...etc ...etc.... So... fish your "goby" lure and the smallies will most certainly find a reason to bite it. Quote

What bothers me about this post is the OP is asking can he use a goby for bait Does he mean a replica bait or a real live goby. Quote
faygo1979 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 That was my first thought. I think gobies have spread enough with out needing more help. 1 Quote
